sonoma 2026 (2 Viewers)

looking at par's DA chart, we might be in for something really special tonight. i think it was tony smith who commented recently.....
'the sound of impact guns in the staging lanes as pulleys are being changed'

Q2 in Sonoma has historically been one of the best, if not the best qualifying session of the entire season. I still say the single greatest run I ever saw in person was Beckman's 3.921 in 2015 that was nearly half a tenth quicker than the record at the time. As we know now that was the start of the laid back header deal but it was so stunning I thought for a few minutes Reinhart was going to come over the PA and say the run was thrown out because the clocks malfunctioned.

Sonoma is surreal when the cold evening temps start to roll in, with the setting sun in the West, and the whine of impacts in the staging lanes for overdrive pulley changes. The best night racing scene in drag racing.
We were busy looking for blanks for the barrel valve, and shutting off bypasses. You knew the moment the wind changed you better have your tune up ready to change as well.

I'll see your 3.92 and raise you a 339.87 2 years later - at the same track. With the headers stood back up. 9 years later the FC speed record has only increased 1.8mph (341.68, Austin Prock).

Supposed to be 70 degrees at the start of Q2 tonight, but dropping to 60 by 9pm along with a corresponding rise in relative humidity. Let's hope the surface doesn't turn into a skating rink before the fuel cars run.

And guess what? We'll have an old friend in the booth tonight - Gary Scelzi. How 'bout that?

Any good ideas on what to do with the Rick Ware rear end issues? This is unacceptable but they need both cars out there to even have 14 cars. Frustrating on so many levels.
