<P>Matt Smith, rider of the Nitrofish Buell is ready to rock and the new Charlotte drag strip this weekend. Smith, who is not only your reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle Champion, but who also sits atop the Championship point standings as NHRA heads into the first race in the Countdown.
Born and raised in King, North Carolina, Smith has never had an NHRA track close to him. Before now, the closest track to him was the Atlanta drag strip. However with the Inaugural Carolina Nationals right around the corner, Smith is proud to have a racetrack that he can call home.
“I am very excited about the Charlotte track,” said Smith. “Not just because it is a new track and it is the first race in the Countdown, but because it is very close to my hometown. My family and friends finally get to come out and see me race. The only time many of them have seen me run is on television, so to have this awesome facility this close to us is going to be great for the whole Smith crew. I hope to make them proud.”
Smith leads the Pro Stock Motorcycle field into the Countdown to 1 at the new ZMax dragstrip this Friday afternoon as qualifying kicks off at 2:30pm EST, and he hopes to make a statement in front of his hometown crowd.
