Well, not sure what the Scag division sales are, but it's part of a much larger company with revenue probably 10x that number for one thing. And Cuttell is biting off WAY WAY WAY more of a commitment than a handful of fuel teams. And probably most important, as noted teams and owners come and go- I wouldn't expect to see the same level of commitment from Scag/MCM 10 years from now, and it's not unlikely that they will be gone from the sport altogether. That's par for the course for race teams, but sanctioning bodies and tracks need long term stability and sustainable business plans.
Yes he is biting off a large chunk, but he is also buying tangible property. Sponsoring is spending money which is gone forever, spend and spend more with no return.
Even if IHRA fails the properties he has purchased will more than likely be worth more than he paid for them. Business vs charity.
