(3-27-2007) LAGUNA HILLS, CA – Going into the second event of the 2007 AMS Pro Mod Challenge, Danny Rowe is well aware of the task at hand. While his focus shall remain on clinching the AMS Pro Mod World Championship; it will be difficult to concentrate on racing with the recent passing of NHRA Funny Car pilot and rising star, Eric Medlen.
“Dealing with the loss of a fellow racer is a tough thing to do. With what happened to Eric Medlen; I realize how important my family is and I can’t put into words how important their support is to me,” explained Rowe. “While we’re looking forward to the opportunity to go drag racing, our first priority is to show our support and respect for the family of Eric and John Force Racing in this difficult time.
“When I heard the news on Friday; I was really taken back and realized how fortunate we all are to be here and how lucky we are to get to go racing. I’m looking forward to all of us getting together at the track and letting the healing process begin. It’s good for everyone to stay on task and try and move forward.”
Though there is no doubt that time is the ultimate healing factor, a good weekend at the race track will surely help. Danny Rowe and team are looking forward to this weekend’s NHRA Spring Nationals and the opportunity to put the Gainsborough Capital ’63 Corvette in the winner’s circle on Sunday.
“We’ve been on the track since Gainesville and I’m confident that Jimmy [Rector] is going to give me all the race car I need to win,” said Rowe. “I’ve spent a lot of time working on my reaction times and feel good to be getting back into the groove. 2007 has been pretty good to us so far and I’m looking forward to continuing our success in Houston. If we can stay consistently fast, I think we might have something for these guys and gals come Sunday,” said Rowe.
Houston Raceway Park which is well known for its incredible atmospheric conditions is the prime location for Rowe to work towards completing unfinished business in the NHRA. Jimmy Rector, crew chief, is looking forward to competing on one of the NHRA’s quickest race tracks and giving Danny Rowe the necessary horsepower and tune up to win rounds.
“Houston lends itself to going fast,” said Rector. “And that’s just what we intend to do once we get there and get after it on Friday. There’s no better way to make sure we get the job done than have a faster car; we’re going to work hard and give Danny everything he needs to win on Sunday. I’ll have this hot rod ready; that is for sure.”
If the Danny Rowe Racing team can obtain a spot in the top half of the extremely tough AMS Pro Mod Challenge qualified field; the chances are good that they will have what it takes to go the distance. The biggest challenge will remain, though, as the loss of Eric Medlen lingers in the minds of all those involved in the racing world.
“What happened this last weekend, the loss of Eric, that’s what will be on most everyone’s mind as we get strapped in these race cars and race,” acknowledged Rowe. “We’ll all be out here racing for Eric, hoping to make him proud and represent his memory in fine fashion.”
