I must admit, I have a hard time with this one; very slippery slope when you consider the team involvement in their respective successes. Not to take anything away from Jr., but in most cases, he performed well and won while having the horse in most cases. Vincent accomplished what he did, including the wins, without ever having the horse. The car runs decent, obviously, but that car was never the "one to beat", so to speak.
If this was a team award, I could get on board. But this is an individual award, and because of that, I just don't see how Nobile doesn't get the nod.

Simple. Hector Jr. would of NEVER been a contender without the countdown. Yea Vincent had a chance to be a contender. But take away the countdown Noble outperformed Hector this season. It's all because Hector was a contender in his rookie year

I'm not disputing that part of it, really. The countdown factor is just the unfortunate part of it.
What I'm saying is this is an award focused on an individual. That said, I believe (as would the statistics, I would guess) Vincent played more of a role in the success of that particular team, while the group that prepared the stellar horse Jr. was riding played more of a role in their success.
Countdown, Shmountdown. I believe the stats pertinent to driving/riding would show that Vincent is a superior pilot.

That doesn't make one bit of sense Patrick.
Hector had more round wins, more final rounds, more no. 1 qualifiers, and did it all in 16 races vs. 22. While I do buy into Sean's first post, I don't buy this.
How does the Countdown even have ANY factor in the equation at all?
Because like Noble never being a contender, Hecor Jr. was not even a contender before the reset, Nobile was higher in the points too. I feel Hector got in because he made the most of the countdown unlike Nobile. Nobile had better lights week in week out. I feel the award is handed out on points finish and wins and that does not tell the story.
I would have voted for Vincent because he took a team that wasn't a winner or a contender for a championship and made them one with his driving. Nothing against Hector, but he was given a bike that was championship caliber and he just executed which is no different than what previous ROY winners such as Bernstein, Hight, and A. Force did.

You call it the Countdown, I call it the last 6 races of the year. The fact is, when the points were reset, Nobile was seeded 4th, with 2060 points, he finished with 2377 points. Arana was seeded 7th with 2030 points, he finished with 2601 points. That's 571 points earned in the last six races to Nobile's 317 points. Arana finished 5 places above where he was seeded, Nobile finished one under. And let's not totally negate Hector's abilities, he did win one of them with a perfect light. Hector Jr. finished out the season on a mission, and nearly accomplished it.
