Rod Fuller V Urs Erbacher Yas marina Match Race Today

Question:

On the second day action video (at the 1:00 to 1:05 point, there is , what appears to be an ex- Formula One" or Indy Car racer. Any info about that car.
Or is somebody running some kind of aero package?

Look like everybody was having a good time - Beautiful facility, of course.
TIA,, Jim

Looks like a GP2 car to me.

Thanks for the suggestion. (I didn't even KNOW there was a GP2. - I've 'kinda lost tract of Formula 1 stuff - too much like computerized sewing machines.) Like to hear one of these GP2 cars - to determine if they SOUND like cars.

In any event, the car in the video looks cool. I've always wondered how open wheel race cars (properly "geared" and "tire-ed") would do in the quarter mile.

Based on Horsepower and weight, I bet a sub 10 sec. Run would be possible! But I bet it would take about a dozen or so passes to get the combination right!

I 'woulda guessed even lower - (i.e. low 8's or even 7's) but I have no rational reson to assume either number (other than weight to HP ratio).

I always thought it would be cool to cross-promote at event (i.e. at Sonoma race etc) to demo an Indy Car (run down the quarter) at the Drag Race and do a Fueler burn-out (at least) at the Indy Car event.

Robin: Thanks for posting those links. Do you know if they ususally run TF dragsters 1000 FT or quater mile at that strip?

Jack Wyatt said that place is awesome... and they have had a great time over there... (Jacks helping out with Fullers car....)

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. Best I have ever heard about is a 9.58 @ 158 after numerous broken driveline pieces. Since dragstrips have traction compound - no spin = broken half shafts and fried clutches. I believe they changed trans ratios to get the car to launch without bogging the motor ( apparently anything less than 16,000 rpm is bogging the motor ).

About the same ET as an Indy car with a seasoned driver.

Or for about the same price as a set of valves for an F1 car you could buy a Super Street car, turn the stop off, and wax it with room to spare...

Hi Jim, it looks like one of the circuit's Formula Yas 3000s, you can find more info about them here.

Was over there just last month with our V8 Supercars, ran into Hot Rod Fuller in the foyer of the Yas Marina Hotel and spoke with him for a little while.
