ROBERT PATRICK “RACING PRO STOCK IN THE MECCA OF AUTOMOBILES”
MILAN, MI. – No class has “Detroit” written over it more than Pro Stock. That is why IHRA Torco’s CompetitionPlus Pro Stock racer Robert Patrick wants to win badly during this weekend’s IHRA Motor City Nationals at Milan dragway near Detroit, Michigan, the capital of American automobile manufacturing.
Patrick said Milan has a nostalgic feel that inspires Pro Stock drivers to deep down inside.
“I love racing at Milan,” Patrick said. “I always manage to qualify well and we won the race here last year. When you come to this race track, you get to experience a bit of history racing here. This track is a bit of a throwback to the old days of drag racing.”
For Patrick, winning so close to Detroit creates the feel of “Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday.” That adage was a staple of auto marketing in the Sixties.
“Everybody would love to win this race considering it is so close to Detroit,” Patrick said. “We had a few reps from Ford here last year. This is the time we have to showcase their handiwork. We get to show them the quickest and fastest Pro Stockers on the planet. That’s gotta be worth something.”
If anyone should know the importance of winning Milan, it would by Patrick. Last year he defeated Pete Berner in the final round. He’s currently leading the point standings headed into the final four events of the season.
For Patrick, winning this event requires the same kind of game plan that any other race on the tour does.
“It really doesn’t get any easier to explain than our game plan is to qualify in the top half and go rounds on Sunday,” said Patrick.
