KING, NC (June 5, 2011) – Coming off of recent back surgery, Rickie Smith and his Nitrous Injected Carolina Drilling/Coffman Tank Trucks Chevrolet Camaro headed into Englishtown, New Jersey to do some damage on the race track.
The wily veteran ran great times all weekend. Qualifying himself in the sixth spot with incredibly consistent runs, Smith would head into first round ready for battle.
Having to run against the Turbo car of Brad Personett, Smith would dial his Camaro in. Running one of the quickest times in Pro Mod Nitrous history at a 5.833 et at 244.21 mph, Smith would give it an amazing effort. However his opponent, Personett would run the quickest run in Pro Mod history at a 5.772 et, therefore Smith would lose the round.
“Not much you can do there,” said Rickie Smith. “We ran great all weekend here, but when you go up against a Turbo car you don’t stand a chance unless they run bad. They are so quick. We did all we can do. I am proud of how we ran.”
The NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge will run again in two weeks at the Bristol Dragway, one of Smith’s favorite tracks.
