Wayne, I was just thinking about this the other day. This is indeed a blast from the past. It was always pretty cool to here 16 pro stockers running at the same time.

Wasn't Warren Johnson one of the first to start towing them back to the pit instead of driving them after a run? I remember he said he wanted the engine in exactly the shape it was in when shut off at the finish line for tunig purposes.

I remember as a kid seeing them do this as the missing man formation due to Lee Sheppards accident.

Didn't they also tow the fuelers out then too?

Was Tricky Ricky driving the STP car back then? I think I remember that but ive killed some brain cells along the way sine then.

JR (Paul) who bought that blue car in the far lane? Was it Ridgeway?

Hey Mike,

Ridgeway did end up with the ex-Rebeschi (spelling) Grand Prix (which he ran Australia's first PS 7 in), but it was originally brought into the country by Chris Sironotis, a racer from the 70's who got back into Drag Racing briefly in the early 90's. Sironotis ran the car in A/Gas for one or two races before getting out.

From what I was told, this was a really "trick" car that had a lot of aero work done on it in the US. As you know, it later went to John O'Kearney and then Dennis Whiting. I am not sure who has it now that Whiting has his new car.

Ironically, the car in the near lane is Reid Whisnant's Baretta, which also ended up in Australia. It was brought in by Henry Pacifico and Rob Quatrocci which was later sold to Jay Watson, then off to Archie Kajewski and crashed in Sydney.

PS. I CAN HEAR JIMMY!! :D

<<Where is the Cowboy these days?? >>

Last I heard he said he was thinking of taking up golf - His birthday is on Monday.

I too forgot that they used to do this. Like many great former traditions, the parade went the way of one of my favorite things...the dry hop by a nitro car.

Paul Rebeschi's Grand Prix was driven by Kenny Delco, giving him his only NHRA event win in 1990.

I miss the fact when it was in the rules that the PS cars had to be driven and not towed. They found the loophole stating that the rule did not say the cars could not be pushed as in using their foot sitting on the 4 wheeler or mini-bikes.

Not only do I miss the PS parade, how about when the PS teams would DRIVE to the scales to get weighed. I always liked that at Maple Grove when they used the old return road.

Can't forget watching them drive back the return road, shut off & coast back to get e.t. slip, fire back up & drive to pits.
