The largest Drag Racing event in the Southern Hemisphere is set to rock Queensland ’s Willowbank Raceway when it hosts the 41st edition of the Winternationals from the 5th-8th June.
As the finale to the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series, the Winternationals has attracted a huge 76 professional entries across the 6 Group One brackets, including the iconic husband and wife Reed Racing team in Top Alcohol.
Team principle Stevens Reed, who is currently sitting in 5th position in the National Championship, is pumped up for a big event at the Winternationals and also about the prospect of getting at the pointy end of the field on his home track after some recent developmental breakthroughs on his 3500 horsepower Funny Car.
“So far this year we have been consistently in the Finals fields with some solid results in my Funny Car, but haven’t really been able to challenge for an event win,” Stevens Reed said.
“The competition is getting so tough now in Top Alcohol we have to be continually pushing new ideas and innovations to try to get the edge.”
“Over the last couple of rounds we have been trying a few new things and are now starting to head in a direction that should really increase our performances even further.”
“At the Winternats I am out of Championship contention, so we will be going for broke for the event win and not be holding anything back.”
Steven’s wife Debbie Reed will also have her Reed Racing Dragster out at Willowbank Raceway taking it up to the boys as the only female competing in the Top Alcohol bracket.
This will be Debbie’s first official competition at the track since September last year after an early season racing incident in Sydney that saw her miss the middle part of the season. With new updates to her Dragster now though, she is expecting big things at the Winternationals.
“I didn’t realise how much I missed being out on track in front of the fans and am really excited about next weekend, especially here at my home in Queensland,” Debbie Reed said.
“There are a few New South Welshman coming up as well that I would really like to stick it and make sure they don’t get any more bragging rights.”
“The pressure is always on though at the Winternats as everyone wants to perform with it being such a big event.”
“My Dragster is really coming along well with a few new parts and like all the drivers I will be aiming for outright honours, it would be great to finish the season with a win!”
