Quarterfinal Finish for Connolly at NHRA Finals

POMONA, Calif. - Dave Connolly did everything he could to put the SKULL Gear/Torco Racing Fuels Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt into the semifinals of the Auto Club Finals at Pomona Raceway Sunday, but he couldn't get around new series champion Jason Line.

Connolly left the starting line first (.031-second to .040) but it didn't take Line long to overcome the head start en route to a 6.641-second, 208.36-mph victory. Connolly was timed in 6.684 at 207.62 mph.

"We made a decent run in the left lane . . ." said Connolly, who finished his finest season despite a slow start. "We have our work cut out for us in the off-season. We must work on improving our times in the first half of the track. We still had a good weekend and overall it was a good year."

Connolly won four times in seven final rounds and piled up 1451 points while finishing behind Lane and Greg Anderson.

"This was a quick season and I'm not going to say we won't enjoy our time off, but we are ready to get started on next year. I like the group of guys we have and we'll be working on a lot of different things this winter."

Their next race is the 2007 season-opening Winternationals, Feb. 8-11, at Pomona.
