Connolly Reaches Quarterfinals

Ennis, TX (Sept. 24, 2006) - Dave Connolly advanced to the quarterfinals of the O’Reilly Fall Nationals Sunday at the Texas Motorplex near Dallas, but was disappointed he couldn’t take advantage of early losses by Greg Anderson and Jason Line, the two drivers ahead of him in NHRA POWERade drag racing series competition.

Connolly was quicker off the starting line against Steve Schmidt and it led to a first-round victory. Connolly’s Skull Gear Chevy Cobalt had a .035-second reaction to Schmidt’s .067 and Connolly got the win light in 6.706 seconds at 205.10 mph to Schmidt’s 6.689 seconds.

But Connolly wasn’t able to get past Greg Stanfield in the quarterfinals. Stanfield posted a time of 6.683 seconds at 205.91 mph to Connolly’s 6.700 at 204.70.

“We struggled this weekend. The car wasn’t running good and I wasn’t driving good,” Connolly commented. “But we will get that square away and get the car running better. We weren’t able to gain any ground on Jason (the series leader with 1,358 points),” Connolly commented.
