Here is Jeffs car finished

Thanks Bob brings back a lot of memories.

Memories is right...that's where my love of drag racing started....my neighbors with their 67 M/P Nova. It was Corvette yellow and had parts with names I learned as a kid and still remember to this day....Weiand "Team G" tunnel ram, Braswell carbs, Mark Williams axles, Moroso engine parts, Harwood scoop, Doug Nash 5 speed, Mickey Thompson rods and gas ported pistons from Arias......and a less than 300 c.i. smallblock Chevy.
In a box I have 7 out of the 8 rods.....I think # 8 is on the surface of the moon......

They also gave me all of their SS and DI mags which I read voraciously. Once at E-Town, I found myself sitting near Steve Collison in the stands while P/S was running at the Summernats. It was like an Elvis sighting!

My prediction is Pro Stock will still be as boring and the fans will leave the stands or FF the recorders.

Depends a great deal on the promotion and presentation. 20 years ago at the Texas 'Plex, they had a Sunday morning Pro Stock 'parade' and then led off with that class. They could easily do that again. Parade down the track, drive right back around to the lanes and race 'em. Use an enthusiastic announcer who's interested in promoting the class and who can talk interesting facts, not simply an ET/speed announcer. Hell, I know how to do that. Fox Sports also will play a critical role, or at least it can, should NHRA decide to cut loose and give the class its due.

Pomona will have tons of Pro Stock interest, and to me, turning the cars around and making them park close to the pit ropes was a really good move, and did a lot more for fan involvement than EFI will ever do.

We ran a 355 14-1 comp #10 Brodex 2-4s on tunnel ram in a 78 Camaro built by Jim Ford. This had the biggest aluminum rods i had ever seen in small block, i believe they were Howard Rods Manley pistons. When he quit racing he sold me the block & heads for $500. To this day that motor is sill together in a super comp dragster, it never blew up just normal freshing up yearly other than some valve springs and playing with cams. Sure wish NHRA would come back with that class, stands were always full when these ran.

Talking with my dad last night, he says he remembers reading an article somewhere lately where WJ said he didn't think the new wheelie bars would create bigger wheelstands like we all may think. I guess the shocks the teams are using may prevent big wheelies. Anybody hear anything like that?

Length of the bars was NEVER going to accomplish that. I don't know what they were thinking. Height, maybe. Not length......

Mark my words...You will see a 39 by years end....Now that they can program in ways they never could...watch.

Right you are. If they want the fans to see skyscraper wheelies, they should point them to Stock and Super Stock. Oh wait, they don't burn nitro.... the average fan doesn't care - and neither does NHRA.

The finickyness of the fuel injection to your foot and the way it opens up that big ol’ blade is really something you have to keep fiddling with until you know what to do and it knows what to do,” Johnson said.

Boy is he right....I drive a 1972 Dodge Polara as my everyday car that has a Hughes modified 360 Magnum EFI engine in it and with the ported throttle body and hotter cam it really magnifies any pedal movement you give it. I would stab it like my 440 Imperial and it would just bog or sound like a foghorn. It took some time before the throttle feel became second nature...good thing the computer has a rev limiter on it:eek:

You won't slow these guys and girl down, their engine buider / crew chief / tuner are like mad scientist they never stop.

And so many of you said it was going to slow then down??? I guess not!

Overall, I think you're right. But these guys are testing under national record conditions. Conditions that would yield mid .40's with the "old" stuff. So as of right now, they're about a tenth off.

But after some data gets built up...............watch out.
