I had an opportunity to hang out with a pro mod team this past weekend at Norwalk and all I can say is WOW! What a wicked hot rod that car is.
A 526 on alcohol with Brad heads and a screw blower in front of an air shifted Lenco. Apparently it makes a little over 3000 horse.

This thing is insane, it would almost stand wheel to wheel with a fuel fc in the first 60 ft, and goes 1/8th mile in about 3.70@200 something.
Are you kidding me? it's a full suspension doorslammer. I'm hooked...
They're fun cars to watch too, definatelty a handful to drive.

My absolute favorite car in the world man. Love the pro mods. And you seen them at there best, with the ADRL. The best show in motorsports if you ask me.

What team where you hanging with?

I was hanging with Mel Bush motorsports pro extreme car. Tommy D'Aprile is the driver. Our clutch guy from Bodes crew also works on this car, so I got first class treatment. Even got to help out a little with the car although there really isn't much to do on it between rounds. They don't even change the oil between rounds lol. It's like night and day from a fuel car maintenance wise.

Yeah the ADRL puts on a great show, lots of beautiful race cars out there.

Very cool! Pro Mods are one of my favorite classes, for sure. So exciting.

Question for the ADRL fans.. Why don't they run 1/4 mile? Is it a safety issue or...?

That's the ADRL business model, 1/8 mile only. In theory, less breakage, no shutdown issues, and safer, all the while still running very fast (over 200mph in the 1/8). I'm a 1/4 mile purist but the ADRL seems to be a great show, I'd love to see one.

is suspension for these high horsepower cars better
than a solid chassis (i.e. fuel and alcohol cars) or is the jury still out
on that? or are both viable?

is the 1/4 mile record for pro-mods somewhere around 5.80? if so, what's the
main difference between that time and alcohol fc's @ 5.50?
weight? transmission? gearing? motor combo?......don't know what the
real differences are aside from obvious chassis/body configuration
and turbo/blown/nitrous motor configurations

Gotcha. Thanks!

I think Pro Extreme would take on a new meaning if they ran 1/4 mile! :D

Those ultra light cars they run in ADRL would be Scary dangerous in the 1/4 Mile. Good thing they only run 1/8 mile!!!

I've been looking up some ADRL videos on YouTube and the amount of cars that show up for a race is pretty crazy! Would love to see that many door slammers at an event. But I don't believe they come around my neck of the woods.

You couldn't find a better group to hang around with at a Pro Mod event... Met Tommy when he drove for Quain Stott and known him for a few years now and he is a realy nice guy... Mel also...

As a big fan of A/GS, and gassers back in the 60's, to me, Pro Mod is just a continuation and progression of those wonderful machines!

Pro Mods are awesome cars, my 2nd favorite to Fuel Funny Cars.

I agree with that statement

Yeah I agree, I felt totally comfortable being around the crew and car, they made me feel at home. In fact they actually asked me to come to Dallas and fill in for Jake who won't be there, so I'll be working on the car!
I'm so excited for that, hopefully it goes well.

I'm no expert on this but after seeing both a fuel funny car and now a pro mod from a starting line perspective, I'd have to say the pro mod is much harder to drive.
The funny car pretty much goes straight most of the time and looks tame compared to a pro mod that seems to have a mind of its own and wants to get out of shape. I'm guessing that's one of the differences between suspension and no suspension.

Melanie Troxel has said as much.

Awesome Mike. Tommy D and Mel Bush are good people. Great to hear your going to be in Ennis, I'll stop by and introduce myself. I cant wait, its going to be insane this year.

One of these years Joe is gonna put on his panties and come to Ennis for the World Finals.

Hey Bernie, are you involved in some way with team Personett?
That is one of the nicest cars I've ever seen in my life.
The Indy win was sweet.

Hi Mike,

Not directly involved with the team. Precision Turbo is based in my hometown and Personett is out of Elkhart. So the Hoosier connection is there.

Sorry if that's misleading. I should change the wording, probably.

I agree. The win was huge! I talked to the team at the Indy Unleashed event and they were hungry for a win. They were closer than they knew. :)

the pmra pro mods is a ontario canada race series, these cars are allowed either blower, so far the quickest has been mike stawicki with a 5.73, also 255 mph, at 1/4 mile, so im sure some of the big dogs at adrl prob be a little better than that if they did the 1/4
