Re: now it is NHRA Full Throttle

It's all owned by the same company, Coca-Cola, and, ultimately, all the money comes from the same check book.

So in 2009, Ron Capps will be the "Full Throttle Funny Car Champion?" Sounds good.

NHRA News: Full Throttle energy drink to rev up with title sponsorship of NHRA series (4/25/2008)

Powerade has been replaced by Full Throttle. Wonder if all the energy drink sponsors will have to go?????

I believe they will be 'grandfathered' across. But any new sponsorships would be squashed (eg., AllTel and AT&T)

The real bummer is the switch after the season has begun....I'm sure plenty of teams are putting sponsorship packages together for next year already. Hopefully, it doesn't effect anyone.

Re: now it is NHRA Full Throttle

I like powerade as a drink, I'm not into the energy drinks but I'm glad to have them aboard. Although their moto on nhra's page "Go Full Throttle or Go Home!” doesn't seem to coincide with the countdown mentality. Maybe there is still hope:D

Good one PJ, I don't think there is a hope for you. :D I hope this doesn't affect the current energy drink sponsorships in the sport, it would be a shame to lose those sponsorship dollars in today's economy.

Even with all the negative PR surrounding tobacco nowadays, am I the only one who misses the consistency of being able to say Winston Drag Racing for so many years? That cap was on my head every day and my bedpost every night.

It is too bad that they didn't bring the big gun of their line in. Coca-Cola had a great image with the Coca-Cola Cavalcade of Funny Cars back in the day.

NHRA Coca-Cola Drag Racing has a nice ring to it.

No, you are not the only one. What Winston did for the NHRA was a lesson in how to do sports marketing.

I also hate it when they refer to past champions as Poweraide Champion of 1975 or something. They were the Winston Champions not Poweraide.

Agreed! I think we got that from NASCAR--it just seems wrong on so many levels to hear them refer to Richard Petty as "umpteen time Sprint Cup Champion"

i think Full Throttle has been #4 seller (not sure what
they are today) behind Red Bull, Monster and Rock Star and has Amp
(Dale Jr./nascar) nipping at their heels.
personally i don't get it, but it's what the young generation wants with
an increasing market share of beverage industry each year.
i would hope that NHRA, Coca-Cola and IMG can come to an agreement
that there's room for everyone, because any energy drink that's turned
away from NHRA drag racing will end up with some other extreme/action
sport/entertainment the next day.
mite as well welcome them all.

now, does the contract extension, which is so highly touted in the NHRA
release, offer more purse money for the racers, or is it unchanged, leading
me to believe that Coca-Cola would be stupid not to extend the contract
because it is a steal.

OH NO!!!!!!

during the audiocast when their Full Throttle guy made the announcement he talked about taking things the the dreaded Next Level:p

Well, he must be thinking outside the box! :D

Ron (I get as sick of cliches as anyone, especially when they're used as a weak attempt at validating something) in Bristol.
