The classic NASCAR story is when the great Smoky Unick had to pull the fuel tank out of car because he was suspected of it being too big, he then casually drove the car back to the pits without it!!

Hmmmm...

From Days of Thunder..
" I'm gonna give you a fuel line that'll hold an extra gallon of gas."
:)

I think they stripped his car once , then when they couldnt find anything they accused him of carrying some device so he stripped down to show them he wasnt .

What actually happened was at Phoenix that year he smoked the Tires 3 times in a row during qualifying which Force never did back then. I over heard some older guy sitting in front of me talking to his buddy that teams were complaining to NHRA about some kind of Driveshaft brake(?) Force was supposedly running. Anyway Force finally did qualify 15th on the last session with a 5.36. However his first 2 rounds in eliminations were total gimme's winning with 5.70-.80 runs, only in the semi's did he run a respectable(Back then) 5.12! Even though he did indeed win the race, his E.T's at the next 4-5 races were much slower than the year before! Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMMMMM...............

Those of us in the Sportsman ranks are subject to teardown anytime, after record setting runs and at random. Go to the teardown barn at Indy on Friday & Saturday and look at the amount of the cars being torn down. Every year we won or r/u at the Mopar Hemi Shootout we had to pull a head, piston, rods were weighed, wheelbase checked, etc. It's a lot of work but it sure eliminates the cheating allegations.

Julie, have y'all ever been protested? Your team use to dominate the Hemi wars and when that happens I know racer will put up $500 (I think) and have you torn down.
I hope your family gets healthy and back racing. The Cajun SportsNationals (or any Hemi shootout) is not the same without you guys and gals.

No we were never protested. To my knowledge, no one in the class, in recent years, has been. The winner of the Mopar Shootouts are required to do mandatory teardown so, in my opnion, that tends to put the brakes on people trying to do something that wouldn't pass a teardown.

Thanks for the compliment. Dad is doing much better but I think we all got a little tired of the work and travel we were doing to run all the races. It's been nice to take a break. Who knows what will happen in 2009?
