<P> (8-5-08)Tony Pontieri comes into the Jegs Pro Mod challenge race in Virginia just 59 points behind Joshua Hernandez. Pontieri has his sights set on closing the gap, and making the Championship come down to Las Vegas where Pontieri is the defending event champion.
This weekend could prove to be interesting in the points standings for Hernandez, there are many teams making their 1st foray into the Jegs Pro Mod challenge this year in Virginia that could play spoiler, and you can bet that all would like to beat the defending series champion if they get the opportunity.
For Pontieri its business as usual, “ we want the same things at every race, to qualify well, and to go one round at a time. We can’t get ahead of ourselves.” Said Pontieri “We had our bad luck at Indy, and we managed to stay within range of Hernandez, we need to be aggressive, and cautious at the same time.“
“I am looking forward to this event, the air in Virginia should be fantastic, and we want to put up some good numbers. We have a bunch of good cars joining us that could really make an impact on the points.” Pontieri added that “with 2 races to go it’s going to be more Important to be consistent than ever before.”
