Pontieri Atlanta Recap

ATLANTA (April 27) – Canadian Tony Pontieri sits just 18 points behind leader Joe Baker Pontieri remains in second place in the points after making his 3rd semi final round appearance, of 2008. Pontieri, who made a final round appearance in Houston, had high hopes coming into the 3rd of 10 JEGS Pro Mod Challenge events this weekend.

Pontieri and his crew had the Rob “The Boss”Sporring sponsored 57 Chevy Bel Air , sponsored by Quality Plus Compressors, running strong all weekend as their consistent performance paid dividends with a solid showing. “We had some parts breakage this weekend and had to fix problems after every round, we broke the wishbone in the 2nd round against Troy Coughlin, Troy hit the wall behind me, I never saw the crash.” Pontieri said

“When we talk about what we're gonna do with the tune-up we're thinking we can't get too crazy because we don't have the time to fix stuff. What happened was we ended up with this really consistent racecar." Pontieri said in a interview prior to the Atlanta race, then had to do repairs every round during the race. “Never again will I make this kind of statement I think I jinxed myself.” said Pontieri after the race.

In the 1st round Tony Pontieri, of Bolton ON, defeated Troy Coughlin, In the 2nd round Tony Pontieri, defeated John Russo, and in the semi finals Roger Burgess, defeated Tony Pontieri, when Pontieri’s car rolled thru the lights.

“I am very happy with the performance of my entire crew, Paolo Dolimante, Frank Fierro, Randy Ward We had another solid performance, and the guys really had to work hard this weekend. "We're going to be as consistent as we can. If you look at it, you can go to the semis or finals every race and win the championship without ever winning a race, We are happy with the consistency.”

“We head into the next event, The O’Reilly Nationals in Madison Illinois just 7 days from now focused and intent on locking up a win before heading home to Canada.” Pontieri added “Being away from our family’s for a month at a time is tough, but successful weekends like this make it all worthwhile.” My wife Doris and my daughter Lily are very supportive, and are cheering me on from the home front.”
