Pomona becomes drive thru food store (1 Viewer)

Get some use out of the track, which is closed most of the year. BV - Before the Virus, we used to go to farmers markets at the big Baptist church in Phoenix. Tons of vendors, great food, lot of it organic and fresh from the growers. Really hope this comes back.

The track is part of and leased from the L.A. County Fairplex. It has been on a 30 day notice to quit from day one. That is the reason NHRA has the Master lease on Famosa (Bakersfield) just in case. At this point it's lucky that they don't decide to shut it down and rip it up.

NHRA brings in a lot of $$ for the Pomona area with the 2 races per year. Seems like the fairgrounds would keep the lease w/ NHRA. Hope the race stays there, but if worse comes to worse, could see the Winternats in Phoenix or Vegas.

The people in the houses right across the street have been complaining since the first race there. Some of them have a lot of pull and they have been trying to shut it down forever. There is a small area there that is exclusive with a lot of power and money even though most of the area - not so much. Also - You can almost hit the NHRA offices with a rock from the track. Beside the History, the Southern California area has the largest population in the United States to pull from and I am pretty sure that the AAA (Auto Club of Southern California) will do everything possible to keep the Winternationals and the Finals close. Most of the Hotels / Motels and eating places are not actually in Pomona its self and the Fairplex does not belong to Pomona it belongs to the County. The Horse races until recently and Soccer are next way behind the L.A. Couunty Fair with the Drags a distant fourth. The horses lost a lot of attendance because of Paramutial betting on line. That could be a big draw to replace the Thoroughbreds, but for some reason it's not allowed. Don't know why because it looks like a green wave going back and forth in the stands with some groups. The Fairplex also has problems and has lost it's "Non Profit" status as well as some lawsuits for a lot of money. The Fairplex makes it's money from the drags off the parking and vendors licenses.

Simply not true, NHRA has a long term lease. Nobody would make the investment that NHRA has building the tower and permanent grandstands, sound walls etc, if they could have the rug pulled out without notice (even 30 days) or compensation.

The every other month automotive swap meets are what bring in the big $$$ to the Fairplex.

How many airplanes have landed on the track instead of the runway? Not being funny as that has happened at other tracks.
