I actually enjoyed coverage on VS. of pole day at the Brickyard. I was impressed that they were willing to devote 6 hours contiguous airtime to the event. I was also impressed that the coverage was a little less PC than in years past when it was on ABC/ESPN. They had no problem acknowledging the IRL/CART war, it's adverse affects on racing in general and Indy in particular and they even aired a great interview with Paul Tracy in which they let him say his piece on how he got robbed at Indy in 2002. The action on track was predictable, with Penske on pole again and Penske/Ganassi/Andretti-Green dominating the front of the field, but it was packaged well and held my attention. And for once, everything wasn't about Danica!!!

I think this is the NHRA forum as in
No Hoosier Racing Area.:)

I thought Newman/Haas Racing did a nice job today. I could almost throw a rock and hit the side of their raceshop from ours.

One of our cylinder head guys got a job with them last year, he also changing tires on Rahal's car.

Kudos to Sam Schmidt Motorsports for putting Alex Lloyd in the field on pole day! Kody (Sam's tire guy) told us earlier in the week that the car was "kinda burgundy" - Kody . . . it's PINK! :D
Color doesn't matter - a great job by the team against some big time competition.

Today was the first time in a long time I felt like I was missing something by not being at the brickyard for pole day. It is not back to where it was, but it is getting there. I think next year I will have to do like we did when I was a kid .... Kentucky Derby first Saturday in May ... pole day at the Brickyard the second Saturday in May.

You are right T, NHL did a good job ... but that Rahal kid is special.

I watched the broadcasts. I must admit I am quite satisfied with Versus' coverage!

Rahal did a masterful job of avoiding what could have been a really bad wreck.

Sounds like Versus is doing a good job of covering everything--unfortunately, I don't have Versus on my Dish Network package--so not only do I not get to see any Indy car racing (I think the indycar racing on the fast ovals is some really great racing--I'm not a big fan of watching the road course racing though) but all of the goings on in Speedway in the month of May. I'm a drag racer, but keeping track of the Indy 500 is a family tradition going back 3 generations, and I really miss not seeing the television coverage. Is the race going to be on network or is it going to be on VS also? I kinda thought the move to exclusive Indy Car coverage on VS was a dumb move to begin with because of the limited audience, but it sounds like I'm in the minority not having VS in my package. At least it's on a network that views it as priority coverage. Wish NHRA was in that position. If NHRA was to move to a network that valued it's coverage, I'd be sure to add that network to my package if I didn't have it and my guess is a lot of other viewers would also. Preferably a network that doesn't cover college lacrosse...:D

I have Versus, but not SPEED channel.
Also, Terry, for Long Beach, I was able to watch much of it from the IRL website. IndyCar.com

I found some more pole day footage. :D

Chris, thanks for the good news that I will be able to see the race. And Paul, good idea--I'll check the IRL website for some info this weekend. And thanks for the Pole Day update. That's how I like the coverage--raw, naked, um, speed!:D
