PMRA Championship to be decided at the Grand Bend Motorplex
The trend continues – Pro Modified series still does not have a repeat winner

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (August 23, 2007) – When the Pro Modified Racing Association promised exciting, heads-up Pro Modified drag racing action, little did it know that in the last 13 races it would have 13 different event winners, and the 2007 points champion could be any one of several teams depending upon the outcome of the next event at in the PMRA tour, at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.

“Who would have thought we would not have a repeat winner over all those races,” stated PMRA Director of Operations Bruce F. Mehlenbacher. “And the points race will go right down to the wire,” he added. “Right now four teams have a mathematical chance at winning the championship, there’s only 26-point difference between the top four teams.”

The Grand Bend Motorplex event, to be held September 1 and 2, is the fifth and final event in the 2007 PMRA season.

Leading the points at present is Matt Guenther of Livonia, New York in the Guenther Racing 1941 Willys, one of the very few cars in the PMRA that is nitrous-powered. The team has 1004 points. Second with 994 points is Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario with the Maier Motorsports 1969 Camaro, and next is Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario in the B&B 1953 Corvette with 989 points.

Scott Wildgust of Stratford, Ontario in the NitroMoose/Ajax Engines 1957 Chevy is fourth with 978 points, and Sam Andreacchi of Toronto, Ontario is fifth with 900 points in his 1969 Chevy Nova.

Both Guenther and Andreacchi have won PMRA events this year, as well as Dave Earhart of Strathroy, Ontario fresh off his recent win at Sanair. John Russo of Middletown, Massachusetts won the season opener.

Now in its third year of operation, The Pro Modified Racing Association continues to enjoy strong fan popularity and for 2007 will present some of the best in Pro Modified drag racing in North America.

The PMRA will traveled to several drag strips in 2007, including two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park, Lancaster Raceway Park in New York State, Sanair in Quebec, and a season-closer at the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.

In 2006, the tour was a great success, and during the past two seasons of the PMRA, each event finished with a different winner. Joe Boniferro and Kasey Janzen tied in points last year and were crowned co-champions over the other Ontario, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania teams. The PMRA is pleased to have Wix Filtration Products, Valvoline, a division of Ashland Inc., Uni-Select, and Moen Incorporated as sponsors of the 2007 points series.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, started late in 2004 and is entering its third year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization, with technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and volatile classes, offering a diverse group of racecars with different types of 2,000-horsepower engines. Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
