PATRICK CLAIMS PROVISIONAL TORCO’S COMPETITIONPLUS.COM PRO STOCK #1 IN TULSA

TULSA, OK. – Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com Pro Stock driver Robert Patrick established a new Tulsa Raceway Park elapsed time track record en route to claiming the provisional #1 qualifying position at the inaugural IHRA Skull Shine Sooner Nationals.

Patrick edged out the defending world champion Pete Berner with a 6.408, 216.31 opening salvo.

“That run wasn’t nearly as aggressive as we wanted to be, but exactly as we needed it to be,” Patrick said. “We had no data on this track but we had a good idea of what it would hold. I don’t think we left a lot on the table tonight.

“We’ll study what we did tonight, so we can tweak and tune things up and we’ll step up things tomorrow. If it’s there, we’re going for it.”

Much of the day’s schedule for the IHRA staff was consumed in fighting the after-affects of a severe down-pour on Thursday and additional rain today. The track was understandably a bit green for the opening session.

“That’s the nature of drag racing,” Patrick said. “This is not an easy sport. You don’t always get optimum conditions served up on a golden platter. You have to take what you can get and make the most of it. That’s what we did tonight and things turned out pretty good.”

If Patrick can hold onto the top spot, it will mark his second top qualifier of the three-race old 2007 season.
