PARTS BREAKAGE LEAVES AREND CLINGING TO THE BUMP
Jeff Arend was on a good solid pass on Friday night, more than likely on his way to a middle of the pack number, when something in the drive-line broke on his Techron/CSK Impala, basically free-wheeling the motor and forcing him to lift off the throttle. His current 16th placement on the grid, with two sessions left to run on Saturday, came courtesy of the 5.042 he ran during the afternoon session here.
"It wasn't running quite as well as my teammate, Del Worsham's, car was running, but it was on its way to a 4.80 or a 4.81, something in that area, and then it just zinged out there," Arend said. "Right about 1,000 feet, it was just trucking along and all of a sudden the motor jumped up like there was nothing holding it back, so the guys are just now digging into it to find what broke in there. We'll find it and fix it, obviously, so it's just a matter of what the weather will give us tomorrow. No matter how much sun is on the track, I know you'll be able to run 4.90s, at the very least, so we'll step up and get solidly in."
