Norwalk and Columbus were the tracks to go to if your from Pittsburgh. In my 18 years there, I've never seen an ad for a drag race. Quaker City had a good divisional event every year, that was a great tradition for a few years. I really miss those days. I know theres alot of hot rodders in Pitt, I bet Norwalk will be packed to the gills (unlike what I've seen at other events this year)

None of us that normally attend, are going. We saw the last NHRA 1/4 mile race at Norwalk last year, and we aren't going to see the first 1,000 ft NHRA event this year.

Speak for yourself, 10 of us that go every year are still going. There is so much more to drag racing than the nitro cars shutting off at 1000ft. Now if they changed to a 1/8 mile, I'd never go again!

We'll be there... AGAIN. Haven't missed a Norwalk event yet. I don't like 1000ft but I'd much rather see 1000ft of nitro as opposed to sitting at home and seeing none.

That's it Craig, if they went 1/8 mile, then I'd never go again!!! 1000ft ain't that bad. I know what I'd prefer, but I'm fine with 1000 ft racing now.

I am speaking for myself, and a group of people from here that would normally go. We aren't going. We saw 1000' racing at the Night Of Fire event last year, and that was it for us.

Sure you wouldn't go if they dropped it to 1/8 mile. Were you one of the ones that claimed you were done when they went to a 1000'?

No vaughn I was not, don't worry, I don't think anyone will miss you!

Brilliant!

I don't think NRP or the NHRA will miss all the money we used to lay out at National Events either!

Ratings are down?

Attendance is down?

It's not just the economy. The economy is the last reason we aren't going, or watching, anymore.

Look smart guy, go look at what seats are still available at Norwalk. Not many. Like I said before if the only reason you go is to watch nitro cars race past 1000 ft, you are missing alot more great racing. Those of us who have owned and raced in many of the sportsman classes can totally relate to all the other cars in attendance. Do you really have a knowledge of drag racing at all or are you just there for the "stars"?

I think the ones that miss the last 320ft the most are the ones that are there to see the chaos and carnage that occurs as a result(i.e. explosions, burndowns, tire failures, etc. that are not occurring on a regular basis)

The nitro cars ARE the stars ! Just watch the stands empty between nitro runs. If I wanted to watch door slammers I'd go to my local dragstrip. This will be my last trip to the U S Nationals (1971 was my first )....I need one final blast of nitro before I toss in the towel. Guys like Vaughn and myself will find something else better to do than watch the sport we love continue to be neutered .I sure don't wish to see any driver get hurt or killed....and to say guys with my view think this way is BS ! I'm not whining...I've been blessed to live through nitro's glory days....stand at the finish line and watch 330 in 4.5 seconds. Those days are gone for good and it's sad !

I'm a fan of "drag racing" and "nitro" NOT the 1/4 mile. Yes I prefer the 1/4 mile to 1000 ft but it aint happening for now. In the name of safety I'll accept it. Maybe there are other answers to the 1/4 mile problem but for now it's 1000ft.
As far as 4.5 at 330 I disagree. YOUR glory days NOT MINE. Sure it's awesome but I'd rather see a 5 or even 6 second run at 100% than the cars today. Dry hops, cackling, etc... My glory days were gone 20 years ago but I'm still going because I love nitro.

Enjoy whatever you guys decide to do. I'm headed to Norwlk!

I can understand the more stopping distance. Explain to me were you guys are coming up with MORE SAFETY. They are the same cars doing the exact same things as before except now the have a shorter wick! What happens God forbid there is an accident at 1000 ft and someone is seriously hurt ?
then what ?

Don't ask me ... ask NHRA. Not my rules ... theirs. I agree with you. However 1000ft is beacause of safety reasons per NHRA. NOT ME. I don't like 1000ft but I'm still going. I'd rather see racing than sit at home and complain about the 1000ft. Someone doesn't like it they shouldn't go.

I'm thru complaining about it. I'm tired of hearing safety safety and 1000ft is the answer till NEXT TIME. Then whats the answer ? 660 ft. is that the new safety ? till we make it to 60 ft ?

I'm in complete agreement Jon. All Im simply saying is Im still going to Norwalk. 1000ft or 1/4 mile. I DON'T want to see any drivers hurt or the low dollar guys continue to be forced out of racing due to high cost of parts breakage. Slow them down and race 1/4 mile. I'm fine with that. I'm much more of a fan of nitro than I am 4 second passes. Agian I'm just a fan though so I can't give any technical opinions on how to correct the problem. That's a different thread. This one's been high jacked enough.

I'm headed to Scottys camping Thursday night. I'll be at qualifying Friday and saturday. Life is good !:D:D

Sorry you feel that way Mike but my first Nationals was 1970. I enjoyed them probably more then when they were running in the 6's and there were like 35 top fuel cars there! I say slow em down & LET'S GET BACK TO HIGHER CAR COUNTS!
