Northrop Loses to Anderson at U.S. Nationals
Broken Valve Slows Northrop at U.S. Nationals

CLERMONT, Ind. -- Every run Dave Northrop makes in NHRA POWERade Series competition is an educational experience, including Monday's first-round loss to reigning series champion and eventual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals winner Greg Anderson at O'Reilly Raceway Park.

"We broke an intake valve and bent a valve on that run," said Northrop, of Perkasie, Pa., who is driving one of Kenny Koretsky's Nitro Fish/ISC Racers Tape Dodges at selected events this season. Anderson was timed in 6.670 seconds at 206.86 mph to Northrop's slowing 6.752 at 203.77 mph.

Northrop held onto the 16th and final qualifying berth by one-thousandth of a second with a 6.717-second, 205.29-mph run.

"It was great to qualify for the U.S. Nationals. We learn something on every run on race day and we're working on getting our first round win. We are getting closer."

Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia and Northrop tested at St. Louis two days before the race and Northrop said it was beneficial. "Eddie did great job and the car is getting better. The car made a great run Sunday morning (the 6.717) to get us in the show."

Northrop will be driving the red car again, this time at Maple Grove Raceway - the home track of Koretsky and Northrop - on September 15-17.
