Northrop Gets First Pro Stock Round Win

Ennis, TX (Sept. 24, 2006) - Dave Northrop will never forget his first NHRA Pro Stock round win. He made it memorable by upsetting Greg Anderson, the three-time reigning POWERade Series champion and No. 1 qualifier for Sunday’s O’Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.

Northrop, the 16th qualifier in Kenny Koretsky’s blue Nitro Fish/ISC Racers Tape Dodge Stratus, combined a .052-second starting line reaction time with a 6.697-second elapsed time at 206.20 mph – his career fastest – into the surprising victory by three-thousandths of a second. Anderson was timed in 6.653 seconds, second-best of eliminations, at 207.24 mph.

Northrop gave eventual race winner Richie Stevens a close race in the quarterfinals. Both had .049-second reaction times but Stevens’ Dodge was quicker, 6.692 at 205.13 to 6.706 at 206.16.

“It was nice to get my first round win and it couldn’t have been much better than it was, getting it against Greg,” said a smiling Northrop, of Perkasie, Pa. “We had a real nice weekend. Eddie (Guarnaccia, team crew chief) and the crew did a lot of work on the car to make me feel comfortable. I have a lot of confidence in them. I’m very excited about racing the rest of the year. ”

Northrop has driven a limited schedule and but will be in the blue Dodge for the remaining four races.

“Dave did a nice job driving all weekend,” said Guarnaccia. “We were able to give him something to work with. I think everyone on the team did a good job and the car ran respectably.”
