RIP Norm Drazy

Norman “Norm” Drazy (Sent from Chelsea Clark of PSI)

On October 3rd , 2019 the racing community lost another great legend. Norman “Norm” Drazy was taken home to be with his maker. Norm was 72 years young when he ultimately succumbed to cancer peacefully in a hospice faculty in his hometown of Tempe Arizona. Norm and his former wife Pat, designed and manufactured the PSI Screw Supercharger that revolutionized the racing industry back in the late 80s. For the last several years Norm had enjoyed retirement and he would assist and consult at PSI to keep his mind active. Over the years Norm touched the lives of many racers and always offered to help out anytime he was asked. “They broke the mold when Norm came out and he will be missed by many,” & “Those that knew him well, understood that everything was a math formula in his world and most could not keep up with him”; (said Chelsea Clark of PSI Superchargers). Anyone wishing to honor Norm may send donations to RFC (Racers for Christ) in his name.

He was a heck of a guy, I loved talking theory with him. He had some pretty wild ideas, and made them work more often than not. And his old blower Dyno would have made Rube Goldberg proud.......
RIP Norm

I remember Frank Manzo telling me one time Norm was deep into an engineering and techno talking discussion with him referencing numbers, formulas and graphs off the top of his head until Frank finally told Norm "Hold it...Stop... You need to go back to speaking English with me." Norm was in his own little world at times. Extremely intelligent.

I only got to meet and talk with him once (Seattle '03 or '04) but he was super friendly to me, just a fan with a question.

I was by the DSR pits and saw him and Dan Olson talking and when he came out I asked him if he had a couple of minutes to explain to me about the setback blowers that were becoming the in-thing.

He took me into the DSR pit area and showed and explained all sorts of stuff to me, almost information overload. As we were talking we heard the alcohol cars firing up and he said "that's my customers, let's go!" and took me up into the stands to watch a round of TAD and TAFC qualifying with him.

Super cool guy to chat with and obviously a man of great talent.
