The Title of this thread threw me off, I thought they banned smoking at a Track!

But that is impressive at a New Racetrack no less! Everyone kept saying the track didn't have enough Rubber on it, yada yada!

Oh crap...well I guess that means that tech is going to really be inspecting now because they all must be doing something wrong...no smoking the tires? Thats not possible!!! :D

Actually, there are signs at Route 66 stating that smoking is not allowed in the stands. I had thought I had read somewhere that NC smoking law also prevented smoking in the stands also.

I find it odd as Hell that people are annoyed at Cigarette smoke, yet they love Tire smoke and Nitro Fumes!

In regards to "no rubber on the track":

NHRA has built a new machine that lays down rubber on the track. It uses 4 TF/FC slicks that are mounted in an offset manner to ensure 100% coverage. They drag it down the track while the tires are spun up, effectively doing 1/4 mile burnouts. It is very efficient.

This machine SAVED the Atlanta race this year and likely saved Denver and Charlotte.

I was working with Roy Hill at Atlanta 3 weeks before the National Event and it was "slicker than owl snot". We were doing runs with the Super Comp door cars and the two-seat S/C dragsters. There was no traction at the starting line and the rear end would break loose at the 1-2 shift.

I was thinking that we were gonna be in real trouble for the National, but the track manager told me "Wait 'til you see this new machine that the Safety Safari has". Turns out, he was right....

If I choose to expose myself to the tire smoke and nitro fumes - that's my choice. I can get away from it if I have to. I don't care to expose myself to tobacco smoke...and many times it's outta my control and can't get away from it (Indy - where the people in front, at right side and behind were smokers :mad:I ended up with ashes in my cup, on my camera, etc.
Others were gracious enough to go under the grandstands to smoke. It's frustrating when you're packed in like sardines and someone's gotta light one up!

There's no smoking at Vegas, and Bristol. And yeah, no smoking at Chicago. Not sure about Charlotte, but smelled cigars alot this weekend.

Well that's a good point, I guess I've never gotten bombarded by Cigarette smoke to the point where it kills me.
