Cool video, but the reason you wear arm restraints are to make sure you fingers and hands are safe if the rollbar tubes end up on the concrete. My rock crawler has passenger grab bars for the exact same reason, Dixon probably needs to provide something similar. I assume that was a 330ft spurt at most.

Obviously Larry forgot that arm restraints are a required item in almost all drag racing, even Jr dragsters. I wonder what else he has decided isn't really needed. Probably doesn't matter because you probably have to sign your life away, plus lots of money, to take a ride. Larry obviously doesn't plan on ever driving anything in a sanctioned meet in his future. I personally wouldn't take a ride with a driver who has had his license revoked by the largest sanctioning body in drag racing.

I’d still do it , still don’t understand why he is indefinitely suspended from NHRA if he’s not even going to race that thing in competition! ?

Actually I Am. Arm restraints are required so if you get in a crash your arms don't come out of the car and you possibly injure or loose them. I know several racers who have been in a crash and severely injured or lost an arm(s) before the arm restraints were required. Most of the safety requirements are a result of injuries or deaths. Picking which which ones you want to use is pretty dumb.

He is suspended because NHRA cited him for having a illegal SEMA chassis tag on the car when he debuted it at the SEMA show. His license was suspended pending resolution of the issue with NHRA and to date he has not made any effort to do so. His license is suspended until he resolves the problem with NHRA

If I remeber the story, didn't they just put a piece of tape over the tag. I think not removing the tag was the offense

That would mean that they just remove the tape and they have a SEMA tag back on the chassis, removing it means the chassis has to be inspected again.

If you watch the video you will see that he is wearing arm restraints attached to the seat belt buckle. Maybe they should have been tighter but they were there.

The SFI tag was a remnant of the original car used to make the 2 seater. Just an oversight. No matter the reason they cite Larry's license was revoked for having the nerve to show up at an NHRA national event with an IHRA sponsorship promoting one of their races. Ask Mike Dunn how he has been treated since taking a job for IHRA. He wasn't even allowed to make an exhibition run at the CHRR in his dad's restored rear engine car.

Was it SEMA tags, or chassis inspection tags?

Edit: Virgil treed me.

Chassis tag. Virgil was right it was a expired tag from the original donor chassis that Larry had Murf McKinney at Schumachers shop modify into a 2 seater and NHRA removed it at the show.
Larry said he had a discussion with Graham Lightbulb about the two seater and thought Graham had pretty much approved it. Graham claims he said they briefly discussed it but he never gave Larry approval to build it. Virgil I looked at the video numerous times on my big TV. He does have arm restraints but they sure weren't adjusted to do him any good. He could reach his hands above his head.
I know Larry was not happy that NHRA about not certifying the car.
You mentioned Larry had a IHRA sticker of some sort on his car at one of the races. I remember that and it was even mentioned on TV. They said when confronted by NHRA he then tapped over it. There is obviously bad blood between Larry and NHRA. His license was suspended indefinitely and he hasn't done anything to get it back.
In the long term Larry needs NHRA more than they need him and unfortunately they are the only game in town.

For those saying Larry is suspended...he commented on this Facebook post a couple months ago (if you have Facebook...if not see attached screenshot) that it turns out it wasn’t illegal. He doesn’t outright say his license is back, but that is implied when he said he’s ready to comeback if he has sponsorship.

One of the sad parts of our sport is that several of the best drivers in drag racing are not active racers. Larry dixon is maybe the best example. But I gotta say this idea of his seems wacky. We all know how volatile these cars are. And unpredictable. this video shows the passengers hands up above his head. at the least a dumb mistake on the crews part. If the car crashed he could have had serious injuries that might have been avoided if the hand restraints were properly adjusted. But in general why take the risk of seriously injuring someone??? And if there is even a minor crash and the passenger has even minor injuries who is gonna get in that car after that. And how is Larry gonna feel as he watches the ambulance take him away?? Just seems like a dumb misconceived idea to me. I’d like to hear other people’s thoughts....

Some find the negative in everything while others see opportunity in the same things. I believe a ride in Larry's X2 is an opportunity for many to experience a true ride in a nitro car and be much safer than if they went through the efforts to learn to drive one themselves, and much cheaper also. Is there danger? You bet. That is part of the excitement along with the feel of a nitro motor's power, sound and G-forces. And believe me, you feel the sound of today's nitro motors.

Hell; I’d just like to sit in it with the engine idling. Although I don’t like the flailing arms like you’re on a rollercoaster, with or without restraints.
Heck, put a dummy controls like a steering wheel, pedal and brake handle in there..... like the Barbie Jeep has LoL. This is so cool and I still say there’s a way to make it phenomenally successful. Somehow.

For the guy who wants to drive a top fuel car I don’t think that would change his mind much because there’s probably a lot of people who would drive a top fuel car knowing the danger. I know I still would

Just ask Darrell Gwynn...they are important

I agree that the passenger should have something to grab onto during the run. He seemed lost as to what to do with his hands in the video. Either a dummy butterfly or an oh shit handgrip of some sort.
