I've read recently where 45 states (WV and Ohio recently permitting ones) are going to allow a type of NIL (name image likeness) arrangement for high school students of all people. Similar to what is in place for the Division 1-A (aka FBS) in college football.
I among many believe that NIL will eventually collapse FBS football if some changes aren't made, and I can't see this going well at all for high school sports (if only because we're talking about minors, who really can't legally enter contracts). Not to mention the mix of private schools and public ones, and taxpayer money for public schools.
Question - The high school thing notwithstanding, would an NIL arrangement ever come into play for NHRA? Are there current agreements that would prohibit an NIL type structure in NHRA? A potential NIL arrangement I believe is the greatest threat to NHRA, looking at the dark potential it bodes for other sports.
What do you all think? Am curious as to the thoughts/concerns of others about this possibility.
edit - I think the player's associations in MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL address this in their collective bargaining agreements.
