I’m curious, how often are the professional class cars and bikes are inspected by the tech department?

Every race, to some extent. They don’t look in-depth at the entire car every race. Instead, they pick certain items each race to look at in depth on each car. They will quickly look at the entire car in the staging lanes and/or top end every session for anything that stands out.

We would go through tech and they'd find something to complain about, yeah OK we'll fix that. Go to the next race and never correct anything, OK your good except I don't like this thing. Ok we'll fix that.

ever since covid, from what I have experienced , cars rarely get teched. everything from registration, tech and waver is done online before you even leave the house. once there at the track, you go to the registration trailer, they verify you did your online stuff, you show an I'd and get your wrist band. Occasionally they may spot check some stuff in the lanes.

Bruce- he was asking about the pro cars, which they are handled a bit differently from the sportsman classes. You are right though, the sportsman classes are not like in the past where each car was looked at from top to bottom before the event.

I always laugh when I think about my buddy's story about a NHRA tech guy teching his stocker. The tech guy had him open the trunk and he said "well well Mr. So So there's the caught and the uncaught and you've just been caught". My buddy asks, ok what have I done wrong? He said you can't run an electric fuel pump inside the trunk, it has to be mounted underneath the trunk pan. My buddy trying to keep from busting out laughing told him that was the power top motor, not a fuel pump. He races a convertible.
