NHRA Tech Says To DSR: Put Them Back On

so in the end DSR spent private $ to develop a safety device
that is a continuation of the 'covered roll cage' stemming from d. russell accident;
nhra makes knee-jerk ruling to remove the device;
now rescinds their decision and allows an abbreviated version of
something very functional and aesthetically pleasing, debatable regarding
enhanced airflow.
DSR should send an invoice to NHRA for their investment in this logical
next step in rollcage protection.....IMO next year you will see all roll cages
covered at least to the capacity of today's approval and will become
a new rule.
DSR-proactive ..... NHRA-reactive

What's an acronym for public relations disaster?

NHRA.

Okay ... y'all saw that one coming.

Glendora must have the highest concentration of obliviots in the world.

Sheesh.

A guy I used to drive for has the best expression I have heard so far...National Horses%&t and Run Around
I wonder though, in the "old days" would this have even caused a blip? Or is it such a big deal because of the media, internet, etc?

That's a valid question, Tim. But in my forty plus years following this sport, I can think of no period of time where this many bone-headed, under-handed, in-the-dark-of-the-night, flat-out dumb decisions were made.

Except for now.

I'll tell you one thing, we need to band together and get our voting rights back and boot these "people" back to where they belong: Wall Street.

Wow.. This whole thing is a PR disaster.

Not only that, but the NHRA allows DSR to use a modified shroud. It's as if they're admitting they really messed up but without completely admitting it because DSR now has to use a modified shroud.

I can hear it now...

"We were right all along since DSR now has a shroud that isn't a performance advantage."

I'm a fan of the NHRA and have been since I was a young kid but this whole thing is a debacle.

The thread title is incorrect, NHRA did not say put it back on, they approved a much smaller unit.

Read the article and look at the picture.

Paul's right ... but if indeed what Shoe and his boys are saying was the original purpose of these "shrouds," which was safety, I'd say mission accomplished.

Only way a driver catches flak now is if it comes from another car. Or spectators trying to hit G. Light and gang with a drink cup or corn dog.

Ant, Spencer, and Tony are back covered up. And as soon as the rest of the field adopts (why haven't they?) we don't have to see another driver die or get injured from shrapnel.

I remain, as most of us here at NM have stated, stupefied at the low level of intellect and reasoning ability running our sport.

We should, no, must, regain control of our sanctioning body. The parallels with the condition of our sport and the state of this country are truly scary.

Simply unbelievable, what a bunch of dopes NHRA has, the only smart guy associated with them is that supposed to be aeronautical engineer who got paid for saying it was a performance advantage and also got paid to say it wasn't. Like I said before it's a bunch of Mickey Mouse Rat S**t, and that S**t is all over NHRA's face. (No offense to mice or rats, not trying to put them in the same catagory as NHRA).

Maybe all you whiners, chronic complainers, second-guessers and resident experts need to band together and organize an "Occupy NHRA" movement. You can bang on empty nitro drums and chant and sing all day and night while the majority of the real fans enjoy the races.

Hey, Tony ... I don't know you from Adam. And I certainly don't know enough about you or your views to get into a p*ssing contest. But if you honestly think the status quo in the NHRA doesn't merit extremely close observation as to effectiveness or fairness or intelligence ... well, all I can say is enjoy the Kool-Aid.

There are very accurate analogies to be drawn with OWS and the current crisis of faith in NHRA management ability. I thank you for pointing it out.

The trick now is not to pound on drums (metal or wooden), it's time for us to get off our collective duffs and do something about it.

Oh please enlighten us Mr. "true fan"...should we just sit on our hands and watch as the NHRA makes it so we're watching cookie cutter cars compete on an ever shortening track? What if the NHRA had the same attitude when Garlits showed up with his first rear engined dragster? This sport is about innovation. True fans get involved, they don't just sit there and accept whatever is handed to them.

I figured you'd be along sooner or later with one of your "NHRA Can Do No Wrong" posts, Tony.

Perfect post and everyone who sided with the NHRA on making this ban must feel like a jackass cause there was no proof, actually I think there proof was to really see if the DSR teams would run worse without it, which never happened. Oh wait conspiracy, I bet NHRA feels Spencer Massey DNQ'ed due to the shroud off. I cannot understand their logic.

Maybe someone sent a letter to NHRA's insurance carrier and they responded to NHRA with . "You did WHAT?"" LOL

Exactly...The shroud only makes for a safer car insurance wise. It may not worked perfectly in the antron deal, but i am totally against anyone saying the shroud was not for safety, it's quite obviously DSR misled nobody on that. Next the NHRA will ban Summit Racing PS team because they think there running with a 510 and not a 500.

Hey Tony who's nose is higher in the air yours or Graham Light's? Us lowlifes are entitled to our opinions, but I bet you know who the Rat Fink team is on this deal since you and NHRA are so tight.
