NHRA Leaving ESPN for Fox Sports 1 in 2016

Im glad espn is gone,see ya!!!! Not bad coverage when its on lol. Have dig preffered with comcrap and says u need dig premier to get fs1,however when i checked i get the channel with preffereed package! You all might already have it and not know? Im ready for a change and word is most of next year will be live! I doubt dunn will be there,he works for espn not nhra.

what i'd like to see happen here is the cable cos. and dish/direct get a clue and realize the average family will only spend
so much for a TV signal when they are already paying exorbitant amounts for digital devices that will stream.
bet an average family spends upwards of $300+/month to communicate and watch entertainment on TV or personal device.....
and you wonder why the average citizen has less disposable income to go out to eat, go see a sporting event,
go to an amusement park, take trips, etc.
mavtv is now off of DISH network due to a money issue....DISH will tell you they have turned off a channel to ward off
higher subscriber fees.....what a load of sh*t.....ala carte is here and only look so far as netflix to see how it has been
embraced. if dish/direct/similars can't figure this out they are doomed to fail......there is no way in the world i will spend
one more cent to have their 'next' package so i can watch one or a few more channels.
i have been happy with nhra on espn; happy that espn and their networks are in my lower dish package; happy with
the same day delayed evening broadcasts, happy with the live events (when i can watch)....i was hopeful that nhra and mavtv
could have worked something out and been available in a lower tier package on dish/direct/cable/etc.
nhra is not 'exclusive' to me and is not worth an additional expense.
to increase to the DISH package that would have foxsn1 would be an additional $200 annual....divide by (24) 3 hr. nat. events
= approx. $2.80/hr. viewing or $8.40 per 3 hr. broadcast......so i ask myself if actual programming were
available ala carte (and not networks ala carte), would i spend upwards of $9 to watch an nhra telecast for 3 hours?......
what does netflix charge on average for an hour of viewing? (i have no idea)....that to me mite be the benchmark of what
someone is willing to spend per hour of viewing.
rite now with no changes i am spending $5k annually for my family (4) to communicate digitally and view TV via DISH.

I don't care if it's ESPN/ABC, FOX. CBS, NBC, MAVTV...whatever, I get them all. My wish is for better racing coverage, PERIOD.
More cars on the screen, more track time of those cars, less inane chatter while they're showing the cars
Mike Dunn is plenty in my mind. If they could get a tuner in the booth, it would be much like NBC's killer F1 coverage (the gold standard of motorsports TV coverage if you ask me)
Remember when Nitro cars had shifters and you could actually hear them shift on Diamond P? Now they fill every second of on track time with talking.
High gear only also has a unique sound that one can hear as the varying clutch settings loads the engine during the run....if they let you hear it...
Less silly helmet cam stuff, more shots that show the racing instead of the WOW factor guard rail shots.
Less "remember last week?" replays and "remember last year" replays and more coverage of the current race.
Baptism by Nitro? twitter/facebook junk. Baptism by Nitro is when you drag your unaware friend to the race, not something you win online.
The key to longevity is the current fan base telling their uninitiated friends about how they CAN NOT MISS this stuff.
The racing sells itself. No need to dress it up. Just show an honest representation of this sport, and it pretty much does it's own recruiting.
Those folks that aren't really into auto racing aren't ever going to save this sport, so they better get busy making those that do love it, HAPPY.

What would ESPN need him for if they have no motorsports coverage much less any drag racing? I would think he and Rieff would probably move over to FS1.

I'm interested to see how this works out. I have Dish and have Fox Sports 1 in my package, but don't have Fox Sports 2. Without upgrading I won't have Fox Sports 2 & I wonder how many times we will get shifted to Fox Sports 2 because of something else on Fox Sports 1. If that's the case I'll miss a lot of drag racing. And as a Dish customer I certainly miss having MavTV. I was hoping they'll get their issues settled but its not looking good.

You can tune into FS2 online when you use your TV provider log in, so you will have that option.

Good news here.
"The agreement calls for FS1 to provide coverage of Friday and Saturday qualifying and Sunday eliminations for each NHRA Mello Yello Series event, with a minimum of 16 Sunday eliminations shows to be presented in a live coverage format, and the remainder shown either in weekend afternoon or primetime time slots. Four of those live elimination shows will air on the FOX national broadcast network."

That's great news and a big commitment to live TV. With that, I think you will see lots of adjustments to the Sunday race day going forward.

I understand what you're saying, but I can see this going both ways. I've always said that drag racing is a niche sport, and that the vast majority of the viewership during events on ESPN were the already existing fans tuning in specifically for the races. I might be wrong, but that's what I feel. Plus, it simply cannot be good for marketing partners on any level when the show is already in a non-prime time slot AND routinely gets delayed on top of that.
