Why not show more sportsman coverage to fill in, let viewers know that there is allot more at the races than just the pro classes

Exactly why can't they show the sportsmen, at least Akly, in with the pro classes? I would rather see that than fluff pieces on what nu metal bands the drivers like listening to, or the Force daughters' cats....

They could show NTF, NFC, AA/FA and maybe even some of NE1 & NE2 cars, that would show the variety of drag racing.
I'm sure the competitors in the 6-8 other classes that are running the very same national event would like the consideration. Maybe more people would see the added value to a race day ticket.

A packaged show for the Heritage events would be great, though.

If they got rid of the *.90 classes and make them just divisional, there would be plenty of time for the classes I listed. Let's face it, the *.90 classes are time fillers, they acknowledge this and that it is not class for the national events fans to watch, it is mostly a classes for racers, not spectators.

Hey now, if they get rid of the super classes, where am I going to find time to get something to eat or use the restroom? :p

...and for the sanctioning bodies to collect their entry fees.

I don't know how true this is, but I heard on Facebook somewhere that this happened after a fan emailed ESPN about finally knocking it off with the 2AM timeslots or constantly pre-empting the racing with girl's softball or junior spelling bees. ESPN replied to her (paraphrasing here) saying that "the NHRA does not have a big enough fanbase to warrant more attractive times, and does not do well enough to push a previous program to another channel if it runs long into the NHRA telecast's timeslot."

She posted their response on facebook and people said that she should email their response to NHRA's headquarters. Shortly after is when the NHRA announced this new TV package. Coincidence??

I'd also like to see more racing and less "filler" crap that nobody really cares about. Of course Pro Mod would be my first choice for more TV time, but after that I think it would make a ton of sense to show some of the late model stock and super stock cars. Or maybe a "Factory Challenge" made for TV with some of these newer cars? Seems like a no-brainer to put more sponsor dollars into TV commercials, and let's face it, those cars are a lot of fun to watch race.

Women's College softball out draws men's College baseball and it is more fun to watch. NHRA out draws nothing, not even five year old Weather Channel reruns. NHRA on ESPN is like Pro Stock on Sunday, just another filler.

It outdraws IndyCar 3 to 1 (Indy 500 excepted) and F1 by 2 to 1. I also disagree that women's softball outdraws NHRA on ESPN. The lowest rated shows on ESPN are ALWAYS women's sports, particularly the WNBA. The only way those sports get on the air is they are bundled in with TV packages (they are forced to air the WNBA by their NBA contract, and they are forced to air women's college sports by their contracts with conferences and the NCAA).

Well I'll tell ya what....if that really was the case....then that lady should receive the NHRA Distinguished Service Award....and if there is no such thing....make it a thing. That is awesome. Maybe all of this was in the wings as soon as the situation with Compton was resolved and they couldn't announce it until then. Look, either way it's a good thing. But it is not going to happen overnight.

Why not show a wheel stander or two, maybe a match race, I like the factory challenge idea too

Well you asked...

The Sportsman coverage, yes, any racing actually, YES.

I personally would have to draw the line at any jet car or wheel standers and jr dragster...just not into them.

There's plenty of actual race classes that get little to almost no exposure even with Lucas series televised to let exhibition and junior anything take up space.

Just my answer to "why not?"

Here's the thing about including other classes into the program. Remember this is a Mello Yello/Coke deal. ALL of the sportsman classes run under the Lucas Oil deal. I hardly think Coke is going to be happy about the Lucas Oil series getting free airtime on their dime.

How the death of SPEED Channel saved motorsports TV

(That's a link, son...)

Interesting read. I think he makes some good points. If you like motorsports, your TV options are actually pretty good these days. With NHRA moving to FOX Sports, they're getting better, IMHO.

For those of you who don't have FOX Sports on your system, don't worry, it's gonna happen. FOX wants to go toe to toe with ESPN. They're putting heavy pressure on systems that force an upgrade to move FOX1 and FOX2 to the same tiers at ESPN.

They already share the stage on any race weekend, right? Yes, ESPN had it split into two separate shows, which isn't a bad idea, but I am sure neither would be upset if the other showed a few of "their" cars.

I sure don't want, nor do I expect Fox Sports to televise the entire race day in one show, but a companion online offering much like ESPN3 would work quite well for the folks that want to experience the whole race.

Guess we'll all just have to wait and see what they do for our sport.

Replacing one "fluff" piece a show with even just the final rounds of the LODRS classes would net these classes significantly more exposure.

i realize there are some among us that only want to see racing sans fluff......please notice the high ratings for the
wildly stupid & contrived 'outlaw street racing' 'reality' shows; notice in a half hour episode how often you actually see the cars
racing vs. scripted dialogue (drama) amongst actors......i would bet you see cars racing maybe 5 minutes out of a 30 min show.
case and point i have a mid 30's nephew that is hooked on that show and talks about it using the driver's actual names
and/or handles......i just shake my head.....he'd never pay to go to a drag race, but watches that crap religiously.

do not expect the new fox telecasts to have less 'fluff', whether racer interviews, technical pieces, or misc. stories.
it is what keeps a viewer tuned in as storylines develop; whether per race or ongoing updates from race to race.

when you watch nfl games, do you know the player's names?.....it's all about human interest....it sells.
