NHRA could learn from NASCAR

George,

I would argue one point, not all those hoods are painted. Roush has a couple of teams that are not fully funded for the year. Hendrick is sponsoring an RCR car for a few events. How about the "Start and Parks"?" They didn't exist a few years ago. I could go on. But things really are tough all over. NASCAR is doing a very good job, but the sponsors are not beating the door down like they were say 5 years ago.

Alan

Some cars are also using multiple sponsorships to make the full year.

“Start and Parks” have always existed. I remember the analysts' commentary on one in the early nineties (I think…); “gonna get themselves some travelin’ money…”.

Nowhere near as viable?
Really?
Do you see a lack of major names on the hoods in Nascar?
No bottom feeding like the NHRA must do with dog food, or remote control car BS sponsorship. I guarantee the average sponsorship annual contribution are three to five times the size of a top level NHRA team. I bet you would shudder if you saw what some of these "major" NHRA sponsors are actually paying their teams. Shudder as in desperately low.
In this economy, Nascar's sponsorship participation from corporate America is more of a success story than even in the best of times.

5 Million?
Do you think thee is something wrong with leadership that recognizes a changing economy and marketplace?
Or size of the Titanic, and just become less viable?

George, a friend of mine at Daytona sat in Turn 1 and paid $75 for the same
seat that cost him $105 in 2006! NASCAR isn't puling the volume it once did!
Multiply $30 times 100,000!

They haven't dropped all prices at all tracks. Smart thing they did was dropping prices on seats that were becoming hard to sell. I wish they would drop the prices for the tri-oval tower at Dega. I don't believe that will ever happen though.

Joe, you are looking at it like the NHRA, you know tripping over the dollars to pick up the pennies..
By lowering prices and making it affordable to more people, there is an a$$ in that seat. A potential fan who may attend another race, a souvenir buyer, a father who could afford to bring his son, developing a new generation of fans. Etc.

1-3 million for a decent fuel team.
10-20 million to fund a Cup team. If the NHRA were a viable means to advertise in this economy, it's a relative steal at this discount. It seems that not many are interested, and would rather buy a small spot on the rear quarter of a Cup car at the same price as a full sponsorship of a fuel car.

I do understand that the NHRA will never have the same capabilities of delivering the message as a stock car, but the fact still remains that there isn't much interest anymore from the 80's and 90's sponsorship standards. Gotta wonder if the NHRA, and their sponsorship meddling from that time has effected corporate America's willingness to re-invest in the NHRA today. Also have to wonder if the stench of arrogance from that time period might still linger. Corporate America still seems willing to fully back Nascar. I would point to the successful changes from the France family, and the less than stellar moves that the old NHRA guard has made as the real reason.

Actualy... if you compare cost to possibe exposure... tv, spectators... blah blah blah.. blah... its about the same.. the big benifit to working with a NHRA team is the direct contact with customers and the fans in the pits.... the only kicker to that is the limitations put on you by the NHRA...

Dude I am sick of this NHRA vs NASCAR crap! You either enjoy Drag racing or move on to something else, it's not hard! Nobody is forcing anyone to follow NHRA, there are plenty of other entertainment options out there!

Thats the problem right there... All these die hards saying if you dont like it, go somewhere else... The thought process should be how to get people back to the track, not telling them to go elsewhere if they dont like it... Figure out something they do like about it and go with that...

"Dude", you sound like a very angry, bitter person within your own personal life. For that I'm sorry, but don't take your troubles out on us.

"Dude", again, please, please, please read and comprehend the thread title here : (Re: NHRA could learn from NASCAR). It's not a popularity contest, it's about the business. If you don't like the subject matter, just skip to the next thread and spread your own particular brand of intelligence there...
