New meaning to "Peddlefest" (1 Viewer)

Yup, I said it in one of the 4 wide threads. When you piss Bruton off, he will get his way, one way or another. Unless they add a 3rd event to Concord, they will be back next year in March racing 4 wide for points.

Hey Paul, somebody else awake here:D

Yeah, great article and comments.

Truth is, they are selling tickets for next years 4-wide nationals right now.

That "petition" was PRO's demise on this, probably private negotiations would have been more fruitful for the teams.

My prediction is, it will be run next year, with "tweaks", and every points contending team (and even many non), will be there.

Just when I was about to delete CompPlus from my favorite list for their exceedingly negative coverage of the event, Asher comes in and sets the record straight. In Texas we call the "back pedalling" going on by some of the owners/drivers "crawfishing." They can run and burrow backwards all day long but sooner or later I'm going to catch the little guys and boil them.

not a surprise if pro caves, yet again....a shame but not a surprise

Just because NHRA schedules a 4 wide race doesnt mean you HAVE TO COME AND COMPETE. I would love to see an empty fuel pit. But it will never happen.

you think sponsored teams will 'not race' at next year's 4-wides!?
are you nuts!? there's more media exposure for that one race even after
one year than most likely any other nat. event.

that's right - they don't have to race.....thinking of someone like the Lucas
team - no one to answer to than the owner's themselves; and vocally
against the 4-wide format........anyone want to place a bet against them
being there next year?

and safety - what happened to that issue?....almost all the racer's/owner's
comments in asher's article dealt with sponsor exposure......i thought 4-wide
was dangerous?.......if i owned the place (and i'll get slammed for this) i'd build
a wall between all lanes; really make the place different - then there's one
thing to avoid while going down the track...........a wall.

v. hartman commented on another thread that espn cut back on certain
camera angles in order to sell more in-car camera sponsor exposure
(i.e. fram tf'er / jegs / fram / nordic). why don't they address this issue?
seems rather apparent the problem isn't with one '4-wide' anomaly race, it's with all the races!!

there have been good suggestions on here
- mention the sponsor when showing car on tv broadcast
- pan close with camera during burnout/staging
if nhra is paying espn - why should espn control content!? unless additional
espn sold in-car camera advertising is shared with nhra?
(offsets nhra's broadcast costs?)

Bruton will get just what he wants- 32 nitro cars on the property, and a 3-4 hour show start to finish... Bet he's got a sticker on the Maybach that says Real Race Cars Don't Have Doors.... ;)

I'll start...

So what used to be a dq'd/blown run winds up trashing a car instead of a few timing blocks?

You can't be for real about that? Right?

If Bruton wants to make this special he needs to put up some big dollars...say...$200,000K.

For you guys that don't live around Charlotte, Bruton has had his battles with Concord City Council, Charlotte City Council and countless others. He always gets his way.

The same statement always comes to bare: "Hell, I'll just move the damn Speedway."

2 years ago with Concord, he was letting everyone know he was looking at property across the state line in SC.

His entire speedway was Curtis Turner's gem and Turner regretted letting Bruton in back in the day. The both went belly up and Bruton high tailed it to Ohio where he made tons of $$$. Came back to Charlotte and the rest is history.

not going to argue your thought; although i'd argue a concrete wall will
cause a driver to lift faster than a painted center line.
i'm really not sure drag racing needs it, but it keeps popping into my mind
every time there's a two car incident (allen/koretsky)(force/bernstein)
or car gets out of shape and crosses both lanes striking far wall (pro mod driver @ indy couple yrs. ago).
i know - drag racing is inherently dangerous - accept the risks on a
two lane track

it's an 'out there' statement; probably should refrain from uttering it.
someone else always comes on here and argues closer walls would cause
greater wall to wall damage due to closer proximity

oh well, thanks for calling me out on it.

No, I am not nuts, and I didnt say 'I thought sponsored teams will 'not race' at next year's 4-wides"
I did say that the teams do not HAVE to race, and that I would love to see an empty fuel pit. For me 4 wide is the same as having 4 NFL teams on one field, or NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. CIRCUS ! Have a little respect for our sport, dont let it mutate into a freakshow.

better be careful asking others to show respect when suggesting failure yourself

poor analogy - the franchises listed (another huge difference rite there)
put individual players in an arena who interact with one another to score
points/goals/etc.
drag racing is individual driver/car in arena going A to B....no interaction;
1,2,3,4 or however many cars, they are each doing their own thing.
(ok - they act together on the green light)

footnote: withstanding 2009 US Nationals.
