New car bugs plague Yonke (1 Viewer)

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 11, 2011) – Bob Yonke’s 2011 NHRA season has not gone according to plan, as of yet that is… In 2010 Yonke went to the finals in the first race he qualified for, however the sophomore slump has plagued him a bit this year.

With two qualifying session complete today, Yonke and his Paramount Pictures “Rango” Pontiac GXP are sitting outside the top 12 Pro Stock Car field going into Saturday’s final sessions.

The first pass of the day the sleek looking Pontiac GXP shook a bit. Then in the staging lanes during the second session, Yonke’s GXP blew out a carburetor gasket before he could even make it to the starting line. Yonke is hoping the bad misfortunes are behind him now.

“This is a new car, and we still need to figure a few things out,” says Yonke. “We have some new car bugs that are troubling us. Yes, it’s disappointing, but we will keep at it. We ran well last year, so we will figure it out.”

Yonke will have another shot at the record setting field tomorrow. The first session of the 42nd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA GatorNationals gets underway at 11 a.m. with the second session starting at 1:30 p.m.
