In-car coverage at NHRA national events has become all but extinct, especially since FS1 took over. Personally, I miss it. Any idea why?

Where would they put the camera? Can't mount it near the drivers helmet in T/F or F/C. Have seen footage where they mounted the camera on the wing strut in T/F. Got some fantastic footage when the motor blew. I miss that footage too. It's the closest thing to actually being in the driver's seat.

From what I understand, if you wanted an in car camera in your car, you had to pay for it.

just use drones. this seems like such a simple solution to allow for many varied camera shots of the racing, the pits, aerial of the venue, etc......don't see too many blimps
at the events anymore either.

They were experimenting with a drone last season.
GoPros are good for post production but not so effective live. That said, I agree that seeing more onboard cameras would be great. Nothing conveys the speed like those shots facing backwards as the crew disappears on the start line!

IMO nothing shows speed like a camera about mid-track up high in bleachers. same camera shot start to finish. camera has to pan with cars. yes, u'r rite, i do remember a little drone
action last year.

The Outlaw Funny Car program from Australia that is televised on MAVTV uses onboard cameras all over the car. They get some fantastic shots on every run.

And in my opinion the best camera angle to show the true speed of a drag car is a camera at guard rail level a few hundered feet from the finish line pointed toward the starting line and using no zoom. To see how fast the cars get from the start to the camera position is awesome. Reference Les Mayhew's "Nitro America" videos on YouTube for this angle.
