"...The overall driver's championship pitted the two low e.t. cars that had completed three rounds of competition. That was the "Flying Fireman from LaMirada, Calif. Jim Dunn, and Pat Foster (No. Hollywood) in Barry Setzer's '71 Chevy Vega from Hickory North Carolina. The race would give an additional $2000 to the winner and $1,000 to the runner up. The stakes were high and the cars and crews were ready. The pro start flashed "green" and Dunn was out first first with Foster hot on his heels. At the other end the race belonged to Foster and his Ed Pink prepared Vega as it moved into the lead to score a 6.72 - 218.97 to 6.77 - 217.91 win over Dunn's Reath sponsored Plymouth. What a race!"
