Yea but bi-polar is treatable..with great success.

At least you've been diagnosed and under treatment..there are lots of folks that have it and don't know it.

David - there's no cure for bipolar disorder. For the past 12 weeks l've been depressed and very lethargic, the Venlafaxine antidepressants aren't working. Last Wednesday l started on Fluoxetine 20 mgs daily, l'll have to wait at least 2 weeks for this new medication to start working. For the last 12 wks l've been tired all the time, low mood, loss of appetite, loss of interest and reduced ability to concentrate. :(:(

l just want to feel much better.

In the old days it was called manic depression. I know there is no cure..and I have lots of friends..and a daughter suffering from it.

But it's treatable..and occasionally a change of meds..or doses is required.

It'll kick in and you'll feel better, John.

Best wishes.

Thanks David l appreciate your best wishes, how is your daughter's health?

Hang in there John, I have been suffering from anxity-panic attacks since I was 6 years old (I'm now 42) I have been trough more than my share of different medications to keep them under control, the meds slow me down some, but it sure beats the anxity-panic attacks. For those that may not know having an panic attack feels just like a heat attack, you have all most all the same symtoms. I had them so bad about 10 years ago that I could hardly leave the house (that lasted about a year). The panic attack starts instantly, the ends the same way, usually they last me anywhere from 30 seconds, to an hour, on occasion sometimes longer. I still get one on occasion but I've also learned to deal with them with the help of some of the self-help books I've read on them. Give the meds time to work, and be honest with your doctor when your asked about the effects of the meds on you, also read any self-help book or article you can find about bi-polar disorder. Like me you may not get them totaly under control, but you can atleast get control of most of your life again.

She'll be 24 in Dec..and she's doing really well. Took a couple of episodes (peaceful but manic none the less) for her to actually realize the severity..and she's taking care of herself nicely now.

Married with my 2 yr old grandson..and her husband is taking an active role in supporting and understanding. That makes me happy. She has a great support system.

In the future the medical community will look back with disdain for the way they treat cancer, with RADIATION..PFFT. KILL ALL CELLS TO HEAL CELLS! It's all we have at the moment.

They know so little..and the drugs they use now will be looked upon as elementary treatment.

It'll get there..and what they do now helps..but someday it will be a non-issue.

John, there have been significant advancements in medical technology in treating bipolar disorders. It is true that the more successful solutions (meds) take a while to re balance your system but they are miraculous for those dependent upon them. Don't give up until you have found the best solution for your specific condition. Many of the meds even offer unique solutions in other areas like lowering high blood pressure conditions as a collateral benefit. I'm forever grateful for the benefits of these meds for certain of my family that have struggled for years. I fear that many who don't get treatment need only encounter one trigger to make the decision to exit this life early. One of my best friends lost his 30 year old daughter last Thursday as a result. She lost her husband months earlier and refused treatment which could have saved her life. Her two youngsters will now be raised by her sister and the family is quite broken.

You are most definitely worth the effort buddy! Keep patiently working toward the best solution knowing that it most certainly is there. We want you here for a long time and we want your "Best John" present at all times. I suspect your family members find even more value in your health. It's all worth it, you'll just have to do a little trial and effort. It worked for us!

You're a great bunch - thanks to everyone for your concern. l'm a Retired Registered Nurse. l moved to the lntensive Care Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead in 1986 which is less than 2 miles from my apartment, all the Nurses, Doctors, Consultants & Anaesthetists worked great together. This was the best nursing job l ever had, l even enjoyed going to work (l bet there's not many can say that), and l became a Senior Staff Nurse. Everything went well untiI 1991 when the the job became very stressful.

In 1991 l was advised to take ill-health retirement and l now suffer from Manic Depression (Bi-Polar Disorder).

When l started suffering from Manic Depression (Bi-Polar Disorder) l was a whole lot worse than l am now.
