MSD magnetos, rare earth magnets

Wasn't it Dale Armstrong that came up with the concept of a rare earth magnet magneto? Didn't he got to MSD instead of working with Mallory? And does anyone know which rare earth magnets are used in such a magneto?

Many years ago the magnets were not available to the public - Military only - once they were release for sale,
Mallory started using them right away ...
Dale's efforts in building hotter mags was happening with the external mounted capacitors on the Mallory ...
The first 300 mph happened with the Wes Cerny changes to cylinder heads & camshaft...
Wes and Dale were big pump volume guys that needed hotter mags to burn it...
