Jack Beckman used the Mopar power under the hood of his Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car for Don Schumacher Racing (DSR), to reach the semifinals of the 14th Annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., on Sunday, July 10.
Beckman, the No. 4 qualifier, downed Robert Hight in the first round with a pass of 4.300-seconds at 282.48 mph to his opponent’s 4.448/279.90. In the quarterfinals, Beckman defeated Melanie Troxel with a run of 4.278/287.53 coupled with a reaction time of 0.114 seconds, before falling to eventual event winner Mike Neff in the semifinals.
Ron Capps, piloting his Mopar-powered Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car for DSR, was victorious in the opening round over Terry Haddock with a pass of 4.476/243.24, before bowing out to Jeff Arrend in the quarterfinals. Fellow DSR driver Matt Hagan exited in the first round, while teammate Johnny Gray did not qualify for the event.
Beckman is currently second in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car standings, with fellow Mopar-powered DSR drivers Hagan fifth, Capps seventh and Gray 11th.
