<P> (8-11-08) Plainfield, CT – This past Saturday, August 9th, both of the Mohegan Sun Pro Mod team cars were at New England Dragway for the Jet Cars Under the Stars event. Steve Salvadore once again took the wheel of the primary Mohegan Sun car for Paul Athey while he is sidelined.
The track was very tricky due to the intense rainstorm on the day prior to the event. The track crew did a great job getting the surface ready, but it was still a bit of a challenge to all the teams. Steve Salvadore had his hands full with the car as it was a bit of a handful to drive. On the last qualifying run it had the front end in the air through first and second gear. In the finals it was once again Salvadore versus Scott Filkins. Steve strapped a big holeshot on Scott and then pulled away running a very strong 6.18.
“I couldn’t be happier with the way our team performed this weekend”, stated team owner Paul Athey. “We had a busy day and had to change the clutch pack before the last round of qualifying, but we have not missed a round of racing with this car all year. My dad, brother, Russ, John, Steve, John and everyone else that helped did a great job. Steve had his hands full driving all day, but did a fantastic job of getting the car safely down the track.”
“We will be adding some weight to the front end before we go out again so we’ll have more steering. We’ve got the car making plenty of power and hooking up really good, but we need to lower the front end just a little. Twice this weekend it carried the front end past 400 feet. My dad and I made some good changes to our motor and clutch program early this year and we have been gaining performance every race. On the last qualifying run today, Steve pedaled the car before at 3.5 seconds into the run and it still went 4.04 to the eighth-mile. We are excited to get back out again soon.”
Teammate Ron Iannotti also struggled with the track and was unable to make a smooth run today. The team car did make some real nice launches, but struggled in the middle of the track as did most teams.
