<P> (7-15-08) Plainfield, CT – The two car Mohegan Sun Pro Modified racing team was at New England Dragway in Epping, NH this past Saturday, July 12th. Due to Paul Athey’s injuries, Steve Salvadore took the wheel of the primary Mohegan Sun car.

While the team car of Ron Iannotti struggled, Steve Salvadore drove Paul’s car to a best run of 6.19 at only 226MPH which qualified them #2 behind the screw blower car of Scott Filkins, which ran a 6.18. The two then met in the finals. Steve and the Mohegan Sun team won handily as Steve had almost .07 advantage at the start. Shortly after the launch Filkins’ car lost the driveshaft and Steve drove the car out the backdoor at over 231 MPH.

“I’m very happy with the win and that Steve will be driving my car for me at the remaining races here at New England Dragway”, says team owner Paul Athey. “Steve hasn’t been in a car at all this year, but stepped right in and drove it perfectly. Each car is different, but he adapted quickly to how my car works. With his help we ran a career best of 6.19 seconds.”

“I’ve been unable to work on the car at all since my accident, but my crew, friends and family have all stepped up to make sure everything gets done. This would not have happened without all of them. It is actually kind of nice to only focus on the tuning for a little while, but I do miss the seat.”

Paul and the team have the next few weeks off from races but will be doing plenty of displays over the next couple of weeks. Each Wednesday you can find the 1941 Willys on display at Mohegan Sun for the Wild Wednesday fireworks shows. Additionally the team will be doing displays for a couple of charities.
