Just picked up the new Meshuggah album that I've been eagerly awaiting for several years. A few points I noticed after one listen...

~Self produced, in my opinion their best produced album yet
~Drums are in the forefront of the mix, bass drums punchy and aggressive, snare has lots of crack
~Tons of low end, 8-string guitars help to make it not too muddy
~Some different (cool) vocal effects for Jens
~Hints of 'obZen' and 'Nothing' albums, but with fresh ideas
~Fredrik Thordendal limits his use of his trademark Alan Holdsworth-style solos, but when he breaks them out, they rip
~Tom Kacvinsky is right, Tomas Haake still KILLS!!!
~ :D

Listened a bit more today, all I can say is WOW. The sixteenth-note-triplet double bass in 'The Demon's Name is Surveilance' (track 2) is punishing, and the groove in 'Do Not Look Down' (track 3) is awesome. They nailed it on this album:D
