Boy, I sure hope not, but the way our screwed up economy is right now it would not be surprising.

Hello Virginia park, wanna come back to nhra....again

That's not good news hope someone steps up with the financing to buy it !
I guess the some of the other great races held there are at risk !

I hate to see it close because of the Super Chevy Show--it was about the last one on the schedule that was any good.

Almost any track on any week you can have unfavorable weather, what is important in this day is how do they treat the competitors and fans and Memphis was good to the fans in my book. This just goes to show how bad times are becoming hope this is as bad as it gets.:(

2010 NHRA Schedule shrinks!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NHRA STATEMENT REGARDING THE CLOSURE OF MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARK

On behalf of all NHRA racers, fans and sponsors, we are very disappointed to learn about Dover Motorsports Inc.’s decision to close Memphis Motorsports Park. We had been in discussions with the management team at Dover Motorsports regarding the track’s future in recent weeks and were aware that this action was a possibility. We appreciate the great support we received from the fans throughout the western Tennessee region as well as the cooperation from all those who worked at the facility.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Dover Motorsports group and conducting the national event at Gateway International Raceway at St. Louis.

At this time, the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule for 2010 will be reduced to 23 events.

Being just a fan, I hate to say it.... but from everything I hear & have read in various places, the FTDRS schedule is or was very trying for even the wealthiest of full-time competitors out there. That's truly disheartening news for the Memphis race fans & the local racers. Maybe something will change - you never know.

hate to lose a date. to bad joliet can't get more fans, thats a great track in the fall. they just don't seem to generate a good fan base for the market.
