McLEAN A CLASS ACT IN THE WEST

Brett Stevens Racing Top Bike rider Troy McLean has turned on a flawless performance aboard his Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley at the Perth Motorplex for the Goldenstate Titles over the weekend (30th November-1st December).

After Top Qualifying in a personal best time of 6.50 seconds down the quarter mile strip ahead of team boss Brett Stevens in the number 2 position, McLean then went on a mission through the elimination rounds with consecutive 6.5 and 6.6 second runs to take the title.

The win has also extended his Australian Top Bike Championship lead to a considerable margin as he hunts for his first National crown in the elite bracket, despite never finishing out side of the top 3 in every season he has contested.

“The cold, overcast qualifying conditions didn’t suit the cars much but Brett and I were able to dial our bikes in really well running five 5.5 second passes between us out of our six qualifiers,” McLean said.

“This really gave me some confidence going into the elimination rounds where I was able to keep up the consistency and take a valuable win, and with all of the bonus points it will really boost my Championship chances as the season goes on.”

“Unfortunately Brett went out in his quarter-final after smoking the tyre when he hit the throttle so we weren’t able to get the 1-2 result for the Jack Daniel’s team, but we showed over the weekend that we have the two quickest bikes in the field this season so far and hopefully we can keep our form going.”

In Top Doorslammer the trying conditions had most teams scratching their heads as to how to set up the cars, but with the competition so tight there was no room for complacency so everyone threw all they had at the race track in what virtually became a competition in who could control the tyre shake the best.

Brett Stevens faired very well in his 3000 horsepower Ford Falcon with an all new Jack Daniel’s Racing paint scheme, making it through to the semi-finals before being eliminated in what was the quickest side by side pass of the weekend.

Despite not being able to challenge for the event win, the entire Brett Stevens Racing team is brimming with confidence after showing some of the potential of the teams new engine combinations.

“Things have really started to fall into place with our new setups and fuel system on our Top Doorslammers after a lot of research and development over the past 12 months,” Stevens said.

“We really turned up the wick for the eliminations which saw my quickest two passes of the weekend at 6.14 and 6.18 seconds, even though I lost all drive on both runs with some clutch issues in top gear.”

“I would have really liked to get through to final against Zap (John Zappia) as he was running some incredible numbers and I think we had a chance of really taking it up to him, but it was not to be.”

“Kath (Stevens) in the second Jack Daniel’s Racing Doorslammer and Steve (Packman) in the SP Racing Doorslammer also showed plenty of promise for the team and with our current setups and data, we will now be pushing to have all three cars in the top 8 at the next round of the Championship in Sydney after the Christmas break.”
