Maple Grove- IHRA (28 Viewers)

Alan, that's understandable of what you said.
I'm just thinking that if a track can help it's bottom line by hosting multiple racing activities. It'll help with keeping the wolves from the door, and keep the track in operation. We don't need anymore tracks turning into housing or warehouse department.

IHRA could have said it cost 2 million to rent for that weekend. Thanks but no thanks.
Is there a source for this? Not disputing it, but has someone posted/published this? That would explain about stipulations behind closed doors, if true.

Sounds like the NHRA said F U , took their ball and went home.....

Maybe sanctioning bodies that want to purchase race facilities should do so under a shell corporation for some separation ....

Or....maybe since the NHRA is a not for profit membership, the members should raise holy hell with their club and force a vote on whether to continue to race at the Grove....

The biggie would be insurance. Joining a sanctioning body comes with benefits, but also with rules.
A close second would be the IHRA profiting from an NHRA event. Would Target let Wal-Mart have a parking lot sale at their store?

Alan
The Walmart / Target scenario, is a horrible comparison! Consider any football stadium that host an NFL team, will gladly host a college game and any NASCAR hosting track probably host ARCA OR Indy cars also, I really think THIS NHRA VS IHRA track sanctioning is nothing more than an egos colliding. Drag racing is still too much of a niche sport to allow egos to affect good business sense

well, the egos have spoken. IHRA said they could have their race on the original date, NHRA said no way. I think they are starting to feel very threatened. I still think more races at more tracks is good for the sport. NHRA doesn't want to share their hard earned market share.

Like Pastor Rick Rigsby always said “Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity “

No reason the IHRA couldn't decide to run Maple Grove as a one off quarter mile race with nitro at 1000. Maybe schedule before Indy with $100,000 to win TF and FC. They seem very receptive to adjusting to what the racers want.

I think they should do it on the original date. How many drivers didn't compete in the last 6 races because they didn't make the countdown? How many would go to PA on the same original date (the date of the Michigan race) for 100K? I think quite a few.

Why is everyone calling it Maple Grove? I’m sure the name has already been changed to Darana Raceway.

I would suspect that NHRA was not happy losing the track. It was easy for IHRA to take the high road and offer the track to be used by NHRA. I don’t think it would be a good look for NHRA to host a race there with lime green paint and advertisements all over the place promoting a different sanctioning body. It would give IHRA a great opportunity to collect all the fans contact information to use in the future.

I've read several times now NHRA losing the track. NHRA rented the track from the owner. Darryl came in and bought the track and offered to rent it to them for the same event. Pretty nice of him being in a competing business.
NHRA needs to start stepping up, maybe cut those million dollar salaries and buy a track or two.

Also I do not see the as direct competitors as IHRA has gone 1/8 mile with smaller fields............

Remember when Englishtown BAILED just a few months before the scheduled race?
At least Maple Grove gave NHRA some good advance heads up.

James,
You are correct about the other facilities. But, a Pro football stadium would not allow/permit another Pro football league to use the stadium.
Most Racetracks do hold other events, but not events that are direct competitors. WalMart and Target are direct competitors hence, one could not use the other's facility.
