Lucky Friday the 13th for IHRA Funny Car driver Cory Lee?

(Aliquippa, PA, June 12, 2008) -- Usually Friday the 13th sends thoughts of superstition, fear and oddities on the day, but not to IHRA Nitro Funny Car driver Cory Lee. When Lee was born, it was on a Friday the 13th and for the Southern California driver it is a lucky day to enjoy. This weekend (June 13-15) Maryland International Raceway will host the annual IHRA President’s Cup Nationals and Lee will be driving Jeff and Bonnie McGaffic’s Monte Carlo-bodied Nitro Funny Car in competition at Budds Creek, sporting the number 13.

After turning in mixed results with an unfortunate DNQ three weeks ago at Milan Dragway’s IHRA Motor City Nationals, Cory explained, “We sure need to get back to the track and make some competitive runs that our team is known for.”

Jeff McGaffic added, “The DNQ hurt quite a bit financially, like a lot of IHRA teams we budget race to race. When you have a hiccup in the cash flow, you have to adjust.”

Jeff and Bonnie have been diligently pursuing a major sponsor with a lot of “let’s talk after the election” responses. With that in mind they’ll head to MIR with tenacity and Friday the 13th on their side. The hard working crew appreciates the commitment that’s been made and realizes each action and decision is critical to the success of the funny car on raceday during the grueling IHRA race schedule.

Cory and the team will continue to challenge for the 2008 IHRA Knoll-Gas Nitro Jam Funny Car Championship. Hopefully this Friday the 13th will be a lucky one and make the turning point they need to boost their position in the IHRA points chase.

McGaffic’s race team continues to receive sponsor support from JET/ WILTON, MetalWood Bat, Kimberly Clark, Permatex, Redline Oil, Perryman Co. and three new additions; NitroActive.net, CarsNotCulture.com and popular e-zine Drag Racing Online.

The IHRA President’s Cup Nationals will take place June 13 – 15 at Maryland International Raceway at Budds Creek. There will be one evening qualifying session scheduled for Friday at 7PM and a pair of nitro qualifying session on Saturday at 2PM and 7PM. Final eliminations begin at noon on Sunday. Televised coverage of the IHRA President’s Cup Nationals will be aired on SPEED-TV on July 26th at 5PM Eastern Time.
