Lee makes second-straight final round

CAYUGA, Ont. - IHRA Torco Pro Nitro Funny Car driver Paul Lee and the Rislone Engine Treatment/J&B Motorsports team made their second-straight final round appearance during this past weekend's IHRA Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park. Lee ran low elapsed time and top speed of the meet in the semifinals before losing to current points leader Dale Creasy in the final.

Lee, from Bala Cynwyd, Md., qualified the Jimbo Ermolovich tuned Monte Carlo fourth in the field with a 5.507 second pass at 202.64 mph. In round one, Lee stepped up to the plate with a 4.995 at 292.20 mph to dispatch championship-hopeful Bob Gilbertson in round one, then set the field on ear with a 4.884 at 309.13 mph blast to take out the No. 2 man in points, Jack Wyatt in the semifinals.

In his final round bout with Creasy, Lee's mount started smoking the tires, giving Creasy the win with a 4.948 at 292.01 mph.

Team Owner Jeff McGaffic is pleased with another solid outing for his team.

"We've been to six IHRA races, and made the finals at three of them," said McGaffic. "We'd really like to win one of these races, but we're happy with the progress we're making. We only hurt one piston all weekend, so our parts problem looks to be going away. In the final, at about 2.5 seconds, it just ripped the tires loose. We set low e.t. and top speed in the semifinals, so we're heading in the right direction. I'm very proud of the guys and we're happy with what we've accomplished."

The team will head straight to Budds Creek, Md., for this weekend's Torco Race Fuels President's Cup Nationals.

"Our goal for the year is to finish in the top five," stated McGaffic. "We gained some ground this weekend and it's possible we can get into the top five next weekend. We're just going to keep doing what we're doing and try to make a good showing for Rislone, Bar's Leaks, Allied Machine and Science of Racing. If we can do that, we'll be fine."
